This great little spot is definitely a neighbourhood draw and is always buzzing with a diverse crowd. The Oakwood is known for its "all-Canadian" poutine, gourmet burgers and its décor - rustic Canadiana – wood, bleached antlers, lots of craft beer. Chef, Mike Robbins sources thoughtfully, he buys Ocean Wise seafood and local or Canadian meat and poultry. My recommendations are the burgers the warm kale salad and the poutine. If your looking for a cozy upscale casual spot in the neighbourhood I would check out Oakwood Canadian Bistro.

If you're looking for a tasty, quick lunch or take out, I highly recommend Thai Basil! If your going for lunch I recommend ordering the "combinations," which come with a choice of curry or entree, a salad, rice and egg roll. The best dish in the house is the Eggplants & Basil (Chicken, Beef, Tofu, or Pork) which is my favourite. Thai Basil is located right in front of Kits Beach.

Named to honour Chef Michael Robbins’ two grandmothers for what they represent in his life, AnnaLena is about imagination, creativity and possibility. An artist, designer and fashion-lover, Robbins has created his own vision and artistic expression for the restaurant near Kits beach, and plans to stay true to his favourite food genre: modern Canadian cuisine. Linh Café, a small bistro that comes with glowing recommendations. "Best Vietnamese in Vancouver – but not really Vietnamese." "Mind blowing," "Like nothing I've had before." The concept – a classic French bistro that also serves a few North Vietnamese specialties – certainly seemed interesting. Vietnamese cuisine has been so heavily influenced by French colonialism; it makes sense to combine both on one menu. Owner chef Tai Nguyen moved to Vancouver from North Vietnam in 2001. Cactus Club like Joeys and Earls started in Vancouver and now has locations all across Canada and the US. The food is great and there is always something on the menu that will satisfy. Vij's has taken Indian cuisine and totally redesigned it for a classy, upscale, and diverse audience. Be prepared to have your mind blown away here, from the initial seating to the service to the food. A+ experience. The menu is very carefully thought out and caters to a diversity of palates. Everyone in your group will find something on the menu they love. They recommend ordering family style, so ordering a bunch of dishes to share across the table. Entrees can be ordered in regular size portions (~$30) or half size portions for $18. The serving sizes here are not ginormous as expected, but it's nice to get a flavor of multiple dishes in family style sharing.

So when one of Vancouver’s top chefs compared the quality of Kitsilano’s Temaki Sushi to that of Tojo’s Restaurant at half the price, I practically hung up on him and put on my coat. I was surveying chefs for the Straight’s annual Golden Plates issue, asking them to name the best restaurants in Vancouver. The cozy and intimate room is the perfect start to a wonderfully prepared meal. On the menu, there are a handful of dishes offered for each course; what they do, they do well. At La Quercia, diners enjoy classic dishes made with seasonal ingredients, and a changing menu. You can order from the a la carte menu or opt for a family-style experience. If you're with a couple of people, ordering family style is the best way to eat; it doesn't get better than enjoying the experience together. Whether we call it best pastry chef or best bakery, Thomas Haas remains on the top of the bread basket for all things baked. This is an extremely popular cafe/chocolatier in Kits famous for their double baked croissants, which many consider to be the best in all of Vancouver. After my latest trip to their shop, where I got their Double Baked Chocolate Almond Croissant, I have to say that I can't argue with those that think they're the best; the croissant was pure perfection. I also had their Hazelnut Praline cake, which was also splendid. Their prices are quite high unfortunately, but you're certainly paying for quality here.

BEST CHILL OUT SPOT IN KITS If your looking for great coffee, awesome Zen like ambience The Only Cafe has it. Service is always excellent and they bake their own pastries, fresh daily. Their siphon brewing method produced very good coffee and is definitely cool to watch if you've never seen it. Not busy on week days, plenty of space to work. The Only Cafe is my favourite coffee shop in the neighbourhood.

Arguably the best donuts in town, made with local organic ingredients. Try the locals' favourite, an intense Earl Grey, available in vegan form. Creative flavours are always rotating and there are always several vegan options (gluten free, too). Cartem has also teamed up with Elysian coffee who motto is to provide people with the juiciest, most spectacularly delicious, and reliable coffees they can and they honestly come through.

This is considered the king of Coffee Cafes in Kitsilano its busy, but worth it. The doughnuts are terrific, and the coffee is pretty tasty too. The seating area outside is nice for chilling out and people-watching. They are a staple in the Vancouver coffee + cafe scene. There are a good portion of coffee shops and even restaurants in the city that carry their coffee, so you know they're doing something right.

Maenam (which translates as “mother water”) dishes some of the most authentic Thai food Vancouver has yet seen. Chef Angus An, who trained under chef David Thompson at the world’s only Michelin-starred Thai restaurant (Nahm in London), applies his affections for locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to the traditions of the Thai royal house. Beyond the real-deal pad Thai, aim for the grilled Thai sausage with crispy rice, followed by whichever curry is currently being served (cross your fingers for duck). The city’s best Thai restaurant, right in our own neighbourhood! Maenam is an award wining Thai Fusion Restaurant voted Vancouver Magazines Restaurant of the year in 2016.

Established in 1990, family-run Siegel’s Bagels has gained legendary status in Vancouver as a go-to spot for authentic Montreal-style bagels. Siegel’s Bagels offers round rings of doughy goodness that are kettle boiled and then baked in a custom 25-tonne wood burning oven in 22 unique varieties and four kinds of rugolach, but its calling card remains the wildly popular Montreal smoked-meat sandwich: sliced thin, steamed, and stacked high. The Cornwall location is open 24/7, so stumble by for a late-night munch or a sunrise breakfast. LOCAL PRO TIP - Great for a quick and down right amazing breakfast or lunch option!

This comfy, eclectic coffee shop on Fourth Avenue has the warmest buzz in the city. It has become a favourite of so many Kitsilano locals. Opened in 2017 by partners Zoran & Sarah Cafe Lokal is a great addition to the neighbourhood. I’m certain that they know every regular by name and his/her favourite coffee, which Is consistently good and ready soon after stepping through the door. Pastries are made fresh every morning on site. I'm told the flax muffin, is delicious, so tasty it sell out quickly. Cafe Lokal is undoubtedly a Kitsilano gem, appropriate for singles, couples, friends or families. And for people who are keen on good Italian style espresso ☕️, look no further.

Nook is one of those great neighbourhood restaurants. Almost from the minute it opened the tiny pasta joint had lines out the door. The menu is a simple selection of top-notch antipasto, fire-roasted pizza and handmade pasta. The pizzas are not Neapolitan style, but they have thin crust, bubbly air pockets, golden spotting and traditional toppings. Think buratta, rapini, garlic, sausage and pancetta. The have some great appetizers, including a vegetable platter and the meatballs, moist and bathed in a bright, freshly crushed tomato sauce, are always delicious. The prices are not the cheapest around. But the high-quality ingredients and freshness of flavour are worthwhile.

Named for a Bahamian island haven and supply point of prohibition-era rum runners, the Bimini is no stranger to a dark and stormy. There’s a real neighbourhood history between those wood-panelled walls, where local hippies and Greenpeacers used to hold court, and today it remains the locals’ local. A Vancouver icon, the Kitsilano neighbourhood pub augments its 24 draught taps with craft beer clubs and dinners, Tottenham supporters and this nations future from nearby UBC. Its strong cocktails, earnest wine list and locally sourced menu make The Bimini a resurrection to celebrate, and not just for a rum run. Hours: Sun – Thur & Holidays: 11:30am – 1am Fri & Sat: 11am – 2am

You simply can’t beat Darby’s rooftop patio during this nice sunny weather, and it’s even better with a refreshing beer. Darby’s has 32 craft, imported, and domestic beers on tap, so there’s plenty of choice. Enjoy the consistently good 33 Acres beer on special on Sunday nights, specifically the Echo beer – a seasonal blonde India Session Ale, with notes of citrus and pine, and a smooth finish. Surprisingly good place to grab a drink but also a bite. The food here is pretty much pub food - think burgers, fries, and wings. They have daily specials as well as after hours (10 pm) specials. Plenty of seats inside and on the patio. I would recommend the burgers.
