Parks & Nature
The beautiful golden sands of Orokawa beach are easily accessed by a lovely walking track from the north end of Waihi Beach (about 2.5km each way, about 30mins walking time depending on your fitness). Because there is no road access you may even have the beach to yourself!

Homunga Bay can be accessed by a stunning coastal/native bush walking track from the northern end of Waihi Beach. The track first goes to Orokawa beach, then continues on to Homunga from the northern end of Orokawa beach. We estimate it takes around 90 minutes to walk from Waihi Beach north end to Homunga (it's also a great trail run!).

The track first goes to Orokawa beach, then continues on to Homunga from the northern end of Orokawa beach. We estimate it takes around 90 minutes to walk from Waihi Beach north end to Homunga (it's also a great trail run!).

Stunning scenery, local history and the excitement of a suspension bridge and tunnels are all on offer in the beautiful Karangahake Gorge (20 mins drive). The Windows Walk is a particularly favorite of ours which takes you on a very scenic walking tour of old gold mining tunnels (take a torch). There are two river crossings, but thanks to bridges no wet feet are involved!
