Great fishing at 7,000 feet atop the Rim -- just 30 miles or so from the house. The store rents boats and sells fishing licenses. For those who just want a hike, walking around the lake is a great option. Willow Lake is next door but less busy because there is not store.

Tonto Creek lies about 15 miles down east Hwy. 260 from the house. It's a lovely stream, with a trout hatchery. A favorite place to fish. It's stocked every Thursday April through September.

Fossil Creek is closed for the 2022 summer season due to last year's Backbone Fire. When it's open, Fossil Creek is a beautiful place to visit on your way to or from the Valley -- enter by the road from Camp Verde. Please note permits are required and sell out fast. Order before going.
