Itsukushima Jinja is a unique shrine that looks as if it is floating in the sea. The construction started in 593. Taira no Kiyomori (1118–81), a leader of one of the most powerful warrior family in Japan had the shrine buildings fully renovated around in 1168.

HIROSHIMA 嚴島神社末社豊国神社(千畳閣)広島県廿日市 Senjokaku(Houkoku Shrine) and the Five- Stories are located on a hill overlooking Itsukushima Shrine. This spot provides a great view of the Seto Island Sea and the neighborhoods of Miyajima. Houkoku Shrine was commissioned by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1587. However construction was halted following the warlord’s sudden death, and as a result the shrine lacks a proper ceiling and was never fully completed. Among locals it is known as Senjokaku (Hall of One Thousand Tatami Mats), the common name that became widely used due to the size of the shrine. This is a perfect location to enjoy
