The sculpture garden is amazing, and free. There is admission to the museum. Check ahead on the website for activities for kids. They have lots of options for small children.

The Hirshhorn and its constant surprising conceptual exhibitions are a must to visit. Form edgy artists like Ai WeiWei, Yayoi Kusama and other giant contemporary artists and exhibitions.

On the national mall, this free Modern Art museum is one of our favorites. The exhibits are intriguing and offer a respite from the historical focus of much of DC. Plus, there is a great coffee shop in the lobby so it makes for a nice break spot between museums!
