I may be biased, but one of the best places for Christmas has to be in London. The capital is busy year round but when it comes to the festive period, it really knows how to put on a show. The city centre looks its very best decorated in thousands of pretty Christmas lights, the shops put on their best window displays and the capitals social calendar is packed with fun festive shows. One of my favourite things to see during the Christmas period is the Circus 1903 at the Southbank Centre. Ice skating rinks pop up around town (I love the ones at the Natural History Museum and the Tower of London) every second theatre seems to put on a pantomime and carol concerts take place around the city. From December 9th to December 24th there are free daily carol concerts held around the famous Norwegian Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square. If you fancy something quite special, you can enjoy afternoon tea with a festive theme. And, if you want to take part in that great British Christmas tradition of a bracing walk, then London also delivers from the manicured gardens of regents park to the wilds of Hampstead heath.

London's festive season only really gets going when Somerset House's iconic ice rink opens for another year. The rink offers skating in beautiful surroundings, and weekend club nights, with big names taking to the decks as you try and stay upright.
