Oamaru is reknowned for it's Steampunk Culture. "Steampunk is a quirky and fun genre of science fiction that features steam-powered technology. It is often set in an alternate, futuristic version of 19th century Victorian England". Check out the Museum and Steampunk themed Playground

On the edge of the Victorian precinct is Steampunk HQ easily spotted by the steam train outside. Inside, the museum is packed with weird and wonderful exhibitions.

Very cool exhibits all done in the Steam Punk Style. Oamaru is also home to the Steam Punk festival in May.
