Die Kathedrale Málagas wurde von den christlichen Eroberern ab 1528 über einer Moschee erbaut. Obwohl in den ursprünglichen Plänen zwei Türme geplant worden waren, wurde später aus Geldmangel nur einer vervollständigt, was der Kathedrale ihren volkstümlichen Namen „La Manquita“ („kleine einarmige Dame“) einbrachte. Ihr Turm ragt hoch über die Dächer der Stadt, so dass Du sie schon bei der Anreise von Weitem sehen kannst. Besonders bei Dunkelheit leuchtet sie in einem hellen Orange und strahlt vor dem schwarzen Nachthimmel, dazu ein leckeres Gläschen irgendwas in einer der Bars auf dem Vorplatz - das ist schon was Feines...

One of the town's most important monuments. The south tower and the main façade are unfinished. It is situated in the historic centre of the town. The building sits where a mosque-Moorish quarter once existed. Work began in the first half of the 16th century, in the Gothic style, ordered by the Catholic Monarchs, and continued in the 17th and 18th centuries. La Manquita is a much-loved symbol of the city and essential to any Malaga sightseeing tour. Founded in the fifteenth century on the site of a mosque, its nickname, used by all locals, means 'one armed woman', because the south tower was never finished. Legend claims that the funding for the cathedral's completion was donated to the colonists’ cause during the American War of Independence.
