Join me on my favourite 10km hike in the Siebengebirge - on challenging trails off the tourist highways! We will meet at Bonn Central Station to take a 30 minute train ride along the beautiful banks of the Rhine. We'll hop off near Bad Honnef for a short stroll through former wineries and half-timbered houses, and then start the hike uphill on steep trails through narrow valleys and along small creeks all the way to the top of Löwenburg. Here we'll visit the castle ruins, have a lunch break and enjoy the view south towards the UNESCO world heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. You can use the bathroom and refill water bottles at a restaurant which we'll pass on our way down. During the second half of the hike, we will walk on small trails and ridges of relict volcanos and enjoy the view north, over the Siebengebirge and some historical sites, and the skyline of Bonn. If the weather is good, we can even spot the Cologne Cathedral. Before reaching our final destination in Rommersdorf, we can take a tour around a heritage-protected and beautifully landscaped forest cemetry where we can pay a visit to the grave of Germany's first chancellor, Konrad Adenauer.
