Was ihr unternehmen werdet
We are going to experience the Underground Art Museum of New York City. Did you know that there are over 300 NY subway stations with works of art? The MTA (Metropolitan Transit Authority) launched their Arts & Design fund in 1985 so we are going to spend some time exploring it. We will start by discussing the history of the New York Subway system that was started in 1904. After a brief lecture about the history, we will go below the surface of the streets to see what artwork is available to us. There are a variety of old terra cottas, mosaics, sculptures, glass works, and even light sculptures to be found along the way. Two of the artworks are interactive. We are going to be on a variety of subway lines: the N/Q/R/W, B/D/F/M, and 4/5/6. We will also check out an NYC secret: the hidden City Hall Subway Station! During this time, you'll become more familiar with the extensive network of subway lines, plus get to see history along the way. Just a sample of some of the artists we will see: Vik Muniz, Chuck Close, Roy Lichtenstein, Jacob Lawrence, and Sol LeWitt. If you want to get to know the subway and its art: this is the tour for you!
Hello! My name is Caitlin. I'm a recent graduate of Sotheby's Institute of Art in NYC with a Master's in Art Business. I have a Bachelor's of Art Education and I was a high school art teacher for four years. One of my favorite things to do is educate! I love discussing art with groups of people and showing them what I know and enjoy! I spent 3 years working as a tour guide at Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater house and now I'm hosting tours about the public art in NYC. Join me if you want to know about NYC's art history and to have a great time walking the streets.
