Was ihr unternehmen werdet

Get out of the city and into the Alaskan wilderness with a "husky hike" - guided nature hike with your own Siberian Husky sled dog.

After a brief tour of the homestead, we will visit the dog yard and you will meet your hiking partner, one of our friendly Siberian Husky sled dogs. You will learn to harness your husky, and then together we will embark on a nature walk through the old growth boreal forest that surrounds the homestead. This is hike is 3 miles round trip and crosses uneven, moderately steep terrain.

We will point out wildflowers, trees, and animals on our walk up to the top of the ridge, where vast panoramic views of the Chatanika River Valley and the White Mountains await.

We will sit on top of the ridge and enjoy a hot drink, home-baked treat, and the company of your sled dog partner before we descend down through the cranberry bushes and ferns back to the kennel.

On this tour you will have the opportunity to learn about Siberian Huskies, the natural history of Alaska, sled dogs, the Iditarod Sled Dog Race (Lisbet is a 3-time finisher), and off-grid living.

This tour is 2-3 hours total, from arrival to departure.

Other things to note:
Bring hiking shoes, light jacket in case of wind/rain, water bottle, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Be prepared to walk up and downhill on uneven terrain.

Born and raised in Alaska, I grew up in a dog mushing family. My family operates the oldest Siberian Husky kennel in the world. I am three-time finisher of the Iditarod, the longest sled dog race in the world. Prior to starting my ecotourism company (Arctic Dog Adventure Co.), I worked as a musher and expedition guide for outfitters in Alaska and Arctic Norway and have over a decade of experience guiding dog sled tours and expeditions. I hold a degree in Northern Studies and History from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and in addition to running my off-grid homestead, my kennel, and my eco-tour company, I teach dog mushing at the college level at the University of Alaska Anchorage. I feel at home in the boreal forest of Interior Alaska and love sharing the northern landscape with others!

Emily was our guide and she was super informative, friendly, and just super great to be around! We learned so much about the dogs and got to enjoy the scenery as well as some delicious treats to help warm us up during the cool weather. I look forward to learning more about snow dogs and plan to return to this location if I’m ever in the area again! The dogs are super sweet as well as the people who work with them, I recommend this to anyone who loves dogs/hikes!

Fun experience. Loved meeting and learning about the dogs...then choosing a fur companion for the hike. The fresh chocolate cranberry brownies were a hit! If you like dogs, would recommend this adventure

If I could give this experience 20 stars I would. This is experience was more than I could have imagined. We got to take time meeting the dogs and getting to know them before deciding who we wanted to take with us. Emily took us on our hike, Lisbet had errands to run in town. At first I was a little disappointed she wouldn’t be joining us. However, Emily is incredibly knowledgeable and she was so wonderful. I am so glad she was able to take us on this experience. The dogs were amazing and so much fun. I took Viisi. He was definitely ready to hustle, but once he got me up the main hill he was good with whatever pace I wanted to go at. My friend took Buff and he is a lead dog and was also ready to hustle. We definitely got our workouts for the day, but wouldn’t trade our hiking pals for the world! The homemade treats were a great personal touch. I highly recommend this experience to anyone in the Fairbanks area!
