Two adults and one child vacationing in this valley of paradise not far from Reykjavik! The setup was ideal and we all felt right at home. It was so comfortable, warm and we loved the added bonus of the hot tub!! We had a car rental and did our own touring of the southwest including the golden circle of our own. Highly recommend this lovely cabin!!

Great accommodation located a 20 min drive from Reykjavik. The surrounds were beautiful and very quiet. We were able to see the Northern Lights from the cabin. We had an issue with the hot tub on our first day which the host was able to resolve quickly.

Though both Google & Apple Maps tried to get us to enter the neighborhood the wrong way (Pay attention--there are two entrances, & you want the one with the blue sign a bit to the west.), everything was great once we got that sorted. The space is small but perfect for two people, and the location is amazing and quiet, yet close to nearby villages and places like Gullfoss and Geysir. At the cabin, the only real sounds are of nature--from the birds to the nearby waterfalls--and the hot tub and deck were lovely. Note that there is only a small fridge, with no freezer, and there is no oven, simply an air fryer and outdoor grill. Grocery shop accordingly, as we did. I definitely recommend hiking back to the falls behind the cabin, as well as heading down the road a bit to see Bruarfoss. The blue water of both is absolutely beautiful! Finally, Hjörtur was responsive to questions before and during our trip, and it was a great visit. I would stay here again for sure.

Excellent little cabin! It’s really nice to find a well appointed place in Iceland. Perfectly situated across the fjord from Hvammsvik. I’ve been traveling to Iceland for over 20 years, and a lot of places are just so-so. Not this one. Stocked fridge, espresso machine, lots of nice touches. Left me wanting for nothing. Selfishly, I should probably tell you all that it’s a terrible place and keep this one as my little secret, but that wouldn’t be fair to the host, who was most gracious. Excellent place, well done, and I will return.

Wunderbare Unterkunft mit allem was man braucht. Ideal zum entspannen und um abzuschalten vom Alltag. Der Ausblick auf den See und in die Berge in Kombination mit absoluter Ruhe sind unbezahlbar. Vielen Dank für dieses Erlebnis!

Logement efficace

The location and views were breathtaking. Sadly the day we arrived we couldn't see the glacier or surrounding mountains due to cloudcover but when we were leaving, we saw just how beautiful the area was. The hot tub was a nice plus and the host was always responsive and super gracious about giving us an early check-in to accommodate our desire to drive earlier before the big snow and windstorm hit. The location was super close to many sites (crater, cliffs, hot springs) and also a great point to visit the Snaefellsnes Peninsula from. In our case, the winds of 40m/s combined with horizontal snow was too treacherous to make the drive in (and we couldn't see any of the sights due to no visibility) so we hung out in the hot tub and took it easy while a the cabin. There were board games that helped for the downtime!

Highly recommend this place. You can take a rest after long trip or escape from the city in peace and quiet place! There is everything what you need to spend the best time. The owners are amazing people friendly, nice, and they take good care of this house. This makes this place so unique. We gonna back there again for sure :)

Elín’s “house of happiness” is nothing short of a dream come true! My husband and I loved every single second at this incredible secluded cabin outside of Selfoss and already dreaming of our next trip back. Elín is a warm and accommodating host, you won’t find a lovelier and more thoughtful host out there. And don’t get us started on the outdoor shower! It has the perfect temperature and pressure! Do not hesitate to book this stay. You’ll be so happy you did it! Thank you, Elín for your hospitality! We’ll be back!

Waren nun zum zweiten Mal in der Unterkunft. Schön ruhig und abgelegen und dennoch sind Selfoss und oder touristische Ziele schnell zu erreichen. Selfoss und der Krater Kerið in ca 15 Minuten und der Nationalpark Þingvellir in 40 Minuten. Ideale Ferienwohnung für 2 Personen die im Urlaub abschalten wollen. Auch der Kontakt mit Steinunn ist schnell und unkompliziert. Nächster Urlaub ist schon in der Planung.

Die Unterkunft ist eine absolute Empfehlung. Super schönes kleines Häuschen mit allen benötigten Sachen. Die Gegend ist perfekt für Leute, die Ruhe suchen und eine schöne Aussicht genießen möchten. Wir wünschten, dass wir länger dort geblieben wären.

Appartamento completo di tutto, posizione molto tranquilla. Lukas é stato molto chiaro nel fornire le indicazioni per raggiungere l'appartamento. Se usate la lavatrice sentirete un po' di vibrazioni al momento della centrifuga. Grazie

We really enjoyed our stay here in this one of a kind, unique accommodation! The cabin had what we needed for our stay and we were able to rest easily. We had clear skies both night and saw amazing northern lights from our window and just outside. Amazing!!!

We had a fantastic time at Straumnes cabins. The cabins are very peaceful, and in a beautiful setting on the lake. We were spending a couple of days doing the golden circle and South coast and the cabin was perfectly located for this. The communication was great, the cabin was well equipped with everything we needed, and lovely and warm. Many thanks to our host for a great stay. We would highly recommend the cabin for family's exploring the golden circle that want a peaceful stay in the countryside.

This was the perfect place for our group of two moms and two teen daughters. It was within an hour of Reykjavik and key Golden Circle sites, and was easy access to Highway 1 that took us to the Southern part of the country to experience its dramatic features (our favorite part). Nearby Sellfoss offered the cheapest gas we found and lower prices at grocery stores than in Reykjavik. We had amazing views of the Northern Lights every night we stayed up late enough to see them due to the wide open views from the cabin and relative low light in the valley. The hosts were AMAZING, offering tips, keeping us informed about the area, and even dropping us a quick note when they'd heard through local reports that there would be a particularly great aurora display that night. We also loved the relative privacy and open space around the cabin. I almost hesitate to go on as we plan to return one day and I hope the place isn't booked solid!

Diese Unterkunft ist traumhaft und idyllisch, mit viel Geschmack eingerichtet und sehr bequem. Nach einem langen Fahrt von Akureyri nach Süden wir sind einfach in einem Paradies gelandet-so hat auf uns die Unterkunft gewirkt! Versteckt zwischen Bäumen und viel Blumen , wunderschön ausgestattet und mit eine großartige Terrasse vorne ! Wir werden diese drei Nächte lange in Gedanken behalten! Eidur ist sehr nett und hilfsbereit und hat sofort geantwortet und ein paar gute Hinweise gegeben was wir noch sehen können. Wir waren sehr zufrieden und können nur dankbar sein und weiter empfehlen! Wirklich ein Paradies!

Birgir's cabin is very snug & warm -- festive with bright red lights -- everything in its nook -- and an amazing perch to see across the valley & short drive to the fjord. Our trip was at the end of December and most days/nights were snowy & with some rain -- very beautiful, but definitely take heed of Birgir's cautions about driving in such weather (which held true, even as we had rented a 4-wheel drive Jeep!) -- it is a steep hill up to the cabin, and we did get stuck on our 2nd to last day -- but fortunately the neighbors in the house down the way were incredibly helpful & we got the car out! We enjoyed exploring Akranes & Borganes. We also did see the northern lights on the one clear night -- beautiful to see the green shimmering curtain of light above the steppes/mountains across the valley. Birgir was both proactive and very responsive.

We had an incredible stay at this cabin! The views were absolutely stunning—like something out of a postcard. The host was super helpful and gave us some great local recommendations, including horseback riding at Laxnes Horse Farm and a visit to Hvammsvík Hot Springs, which was just a 30-minute drive away. We also went snorkeling at the Silfra Fissure, another unforgettable experience not too far from the cabin. The location is very peaceful and secluded, so we’d definitely recommend picking up groceries ahead of time and enjoying meals at the house. The hot tub was a huge highlight—perfect for soaking under the stars! A couple things to note: there isn’t a microwave, which would’ve been a helpful addition, and the hot water had that classic Icelandic sulfur smell, which took some getting used to. Still, this place was an easy 5/5. We’d absolutely stay here again!

Hier bekommt man das wie es beschrieben wurde. Für 2 Personen perfekt, für 3 Erwachsene auch noch gut möglich. Straßenverkehr sehr gering. Der benachbarte See ist nicht so einfach zu Fuß zu erreichen. Der Vermieter ist sehr freundlich.

We originally had issues with electricity but Byrnja moved us into a neighboring cabin because of this that was even fancier than we originally stayed at with no cost. Communication was a little lacking but place was amazing and view was way better than shown in the pictures

Logement parfait! Au calme, proche de la route 1. Cosy et bien équipé. Hot tube et sauna pour se détendre. Emplacement propice aux aurores boréales. Brynja est très à l’écoute et réactive. Merci encore pour ce moment de bonheur.

What a great find. It’s a fantastic cabin, very private with beautiful surroundings. I’d definitely recommend a 4x4 as the track to the cabin is very rough, having said that, it’s easily accessible with the right vehicle. We loved the remote location. The cabin itself was clean, tidy and well equipped and served us very well. Morgan was very prompt and helpful in communications. We loved it and would definitely stay again.

Ari, his place, and his animals are all top notch. Everything made me wish I could move in for a longer stay. We had a great time chatting with Ari and he was super responsive to anything we wanted, needed, or asked about. His stories are worth a visit alone. The accommodations were clean, warm, and comfortable. Best of all, if you are fortunate you’ll meet some sweet animals who patiently wait to greet you. This is a very special place and I hope to return when I get back to Iceland.
