Welcome to paradise!
1700 sq. feet of understated elegance and peace. Here is the perfect place to experience the magic of Lower Puna. Take your family or friends to a place that feels like home (Ohana) and that breathes in the spirit of welcome and love (Aloha).
We have provided a fully-equipped kitchen. There is a Keurig coffee maker, French Press, regular coffee maker, microwave, magic bullet for smoothies, and necessary cooking equipment and condiments (olive oil, oil, basic spices and herbs, tea, coffee, sugar.) In the frig you will find ketchup, mustard, mayo, fresh eggs, butter and half-and-half cream. There will also be a platter of fresh seasonal fruit.
Ohana Aloha sits upon a hilltop overlooking the Pacific. One hears the rustle of palm leaves, tropical birds and coqui frogs at night. The setting is truly beautiful and nurturing with a spacious lawn, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, caressing breezes and even frequent rainbows. There is a deep sense of peace here.
Our home is centrally located in lower Puna. The rustic town of Pahoa is five miles to the north; the Pacific is five miles to the south. There are many intentional communities a few miles from the house: e.g., Hawaiian Sanctuary (yoga, permaculture, and Hawaiian culture), Kalani Retreat (yoga, spirituality, and Hawaiian culture), and Polestar, a spiritual community based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda.
The home is 40 minutes from the attractions of Hilo and about one hour from Volcano National Park. North of Hilo are the awesome Akaka Falls and the spectacular Hawaii Tropical Gardens. One could easily spend a week here and not see everything. Guests are encouraged to use us as a resource in planning their stay. We can recommend the best places to go, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, yoga, massage, etc. There are a rich variety of places to eat in the area, which are included in a resource book (translated into Chinese, French, German, Japanese, and Korean) that we have created for our guests.
We love where we live and enjoy sharing our excitement. Sitting on the lanai or strolling on the property, one experiences a dance of tropical weather, an interplay of bright sunshine, billowy, drifting clouds, soft rain showers, and the sensual feel of trade winds. Make this place a home base for your exploration of lower Puna and the east side of Big Island.
The price includes the following Hawaiian taxes:
Transient Accommodations Tax: 9.25%
General Excise Tax: 4.0%
No security deposit is required.

I moved to the Puna District of Big Island in 2013 with my partner, Konrad Kumorkiewicz, from our home on Long Island, New York. Here we were so fortunate to buy an incredibly beautiful home overlooking the Pacific Ocean on an exquisitely landscaped acre.
I am a life-long educator who works with middle and high school students. I am involved helping students here at the Kua O Ka La Public Charter School in Pahoa. I am also very involved in doing men's work through the ManKind Project (MKP) and Boys to Men organization. I am currently the chair of the World Elder Gathering, an MKP event that will gather men and women, young and old at the Kalani Retreat Center in Oct. 2015.
My partner designs dance customs for adults and children for a dance catalogue company. He has a passion for renovating and was responsible for creating the new self-contained space for our Air BnB clients.
Together we work on gardening and landscaping.
We seek to create a beautiful, quiet, serene place so our guests feel like they are at home.
My life motto is to serve as a channel for divine love through my truth telling and compassion by which others and myself will experience our glory.
