Die Unterkunft
This is a great place for families and for groups of friends. We have stocked the home with board games, books and wooden toys for kids of all ages, but the real fun is staying cozy by the wood-burning stove, dipping toes in the creek, listening to the river, eating on the porch, reading a good book, hiking around and wading in the water or star gazing in the front yard (in summer) watching the butterflies (in spring) the leaves change (in autumn) and the snow fall (in winter). The home is currently heated by space heaters and a wood burning stove. There is one window air conditioning unit upstairs for the height of summer days, but otherwise fans and open windows keep the sweet old farmhouse cool. Two bedrooms are downstairs and two are upstairs.

Zugang für Gäste
Our property has a field with a homemade badminton net, an incredible 1/2 acre organic farm (A local cooperative!) on the property, a sweet, bubbling, creek to wade in that provides the home's spring water, a hike into the mountain behind us up to a clearing, and the loveliest artist and farmer neighbors. You can purchase all kinds of fermented and pickled foods and sometimes seasonal produce from Local and co-op gardeners (SOILSHINE Farm) and neighbors, at the Saturday Burnsville farmers market. Contact Rob Levin for a tour of his amazing glass blowing studio next door. The whole house is yours, and the porch is a favorite spot to hear the river and creek in stereo. There is a wooden portable easel in case anyone would like to bring their art supplies, or use (and then clean) some of ours. We have a gas stove for cooking yummy meals, an apple tree to climb (and eat from in season!). Wifi works well in case you would *like to plug in!

Weitere wichtige Hinweise
Your most immediate neighbors who share the driveway are Andy and Allie, who do green landscaping and work at a nursery. They also help care for the house. They will be your closest local resources while you are there, and are lovely (and know a lot about local spots to go). AND if you'd like, we have resources to local massage and bodywork therapists in the area. Just ask!

Pulling up the road always takes my breath away--Celo Knob is the mountain at the end of the ridge that connects to Mt Mitchell, the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi. There is a big basket near the front door with maps and information about all of the local arts and natural wonders the area has to offer. This home is on an easily accessible road in all weather, that is up the street and around the corner from Blevins--a local produce market, and a short drive to swimming and rafting at Carolina Hemlocks State Park, hiking at Mt. Mitchell, touring or studying at Penland School of Crafts, visiting Local Artists Galleries, Maples Coffee Shop, The Deck Ice Cream Shop, Celo Meeting House, Camp Celo, Mountain Gardens, Gem Mining, Mt. Mitchell Golf Club (April-November), Arthur Morgan School and the towns of Burnsville and Spruce Pine! There are Toe River Artists studios surrounding you, and it's an easy and beautiful drive into Asheville for more sight-seeing adventures.

We are a family of four who have come to love the sweet spot that is the Toe River Valley outside Burnsville and Spruce Pine in Celo, NC. I (Amelia) am a high school art teacher with ties to the local Quaker community, and Andy is an Architect who renovates historic mills and factories. We have two kids who love mountain biking, art making, cooking and music. They have helped us design the house with kids in mind, though adults always enjoy the games and art supplies as well! We spend time here throughout the year, planting flowers and herbs around the house and updating when we can. We aim to be an inclusive space, and welcome everyone to stay in our home. We can point you to our family's favorite hikes and river access (check the guide!), and hope you'll consider our home as yours while you stay. We love our simple farmhouse, the front porch and yard, the creek, and the trails we are blazing through the woods up the mountain behind our house! We also rent almost a half acre behind the house to a gardening co-op that takes great care to make good use of the land. We love our local neighbors in this sweet community. We hope it suits your needs to get away and relax in the cool NC mountain air.
