I am sorry you did not have a good experience staying at our place.
Regarding self checking, This system with a door code has been proved to be the most efficient way to have access to the suite. As owners, we also work and are involved in the community as paramedic and volunteer firefighters. We sometimes leave to respond to emergencies. We do have guests checking in between 3pm and late at 10pm. We do not want to have our guests waiting in their vehicle waiting for us if we are not around. with a door opening code, guests have the freedom to organize their days the way they want and check in at any time.
As a family we already booked accommodations through AirBnB and we never saw the owners.
On the website, it is mentioned that the suite is in a basement and the kitchen/living room area has three normal size windows. I must have finished cleaning the suite not long before that explains the dampness you felt.
I had a nice chat with your husband outside and tried to answer all the questions he had. We also talked about your next days going to Jasper and to Prince George. I was not aware that you would have liked to meet me. You were probably inside. Living upstairs, we would have been happy to answer your requests if you have knocked on the door.
Regarding the price I agree that it is more expensive than Jasper or other places but the location and the market dictate the price. I would like to mention that we have the lowest price in Field compare to the other guesthouses and we are well lower than Lake Louise where the hotel rooms are closer to 300$ a night. You husband mentioned that you would stay near Mt Robson the following night and you did not know after that. if price and quality are important for you, I would encourage to plan and book in advance you trip to avoid any kind of disappointment.
I hope the rest of your trip went well and you enjoyed your time in Canada.
