This is a truly unique, hard to find gem in New York City -- a brand new, bright, and spacious apartment with a vaulted ceiling on the top two floors of a townhouse. Townhouse rentals are usually on the ground or basement floor. The large south-facing windows in the common area provide plenty of sunlight year-round. Blackout shades on all living room windows allow for good sleep. We professionally clean and restock the flat after each guest. Guests have exclusive use of the roof deck year-round.
Built in the 1880s, this townhouse was gut-renovated in 2014 with energy-saving plumbing and electrical systems, central a/c, and sprinklers. The street frontage was fully restored in historical context, while the interior was designed with a modern, clean-lined aesthetic.
30 day minimum stay.

This apartment is on the upper floors of our home. The owners live on the lower floors and use a separate entrance. We are steps away and available to answer questions and provide as much help as we can. We are happy to interact as often or as little as you choose.
Central Harlem is relaxed and spacious compared to rest of Manhattan. Boulevards are wide and residents are friendly. In recent years, many abandoned homes have been renovated (such as ours), and Manhattanites who wouldn't have previously considered Harlem have moved in to have more space. In response, new and exciting restaurants and stores seem to open every month. Bed Bath &Beyond just opened a block away and Whole Foods Market is opening in Summer 2017. I keep a list of recommended local restaurants and stores in the apartment.
Harlem is a gentrifying neighborhood. It is not the Upper East Side, and we wouldn't want it to be. I am often asked if it is safe, and there are two ways to answer that question. First, we feel safe and have never had any problems. We use the same precautions here that we would use anywhere in NYC. However, feeling safe is subjective, so I encourage you to search 'NYC crime map' and compare for yourself statistics between neighborhoods. We are located in precinct 28.
This townhouse is easily accessible from all major points in Manhattan.
The closest subway stop -- the 2/3 express stop at W. 125 St. and Lenox (or Malcolm X Blvd) -- is right around the corner, a 3 min. walk. The 2/3 trains stop at the Upper West Side (Lincoln Center), Times Square (Broadway district), Penn Station, Chelsea, One World Trade Center, Wall Street, and Brooklyn. A 15 min. walk to the west is the ABCD subway for Central Park West, The Natural History Museum, and Columbus Circle. A 15 min. walk to the east is the 4/5/6 line for the Upper East Side, Grand Central, Union Square, and the East Village.
The M60 express bus stops on W. 125 St. at Lenox and goes to/from LaGuardia Airport. The M102 bus stops on Lenox at W. 124 St. and travels to the Upper East Side, Central Park Zoo, and the Met and Guggenheim Museums on 5th Avenue.
Taxis can be hailed from the cross streets Lenox and Adam Clayton Powell. Parking and rental cars are available at garages on W. 124 St. and W. 126 St. Bike rental is available at the bike shop on Lenox at W. 122 St.

I moved to New York City 11 years ago from Los Angeles. I enjoy sharing what I know about my "new" hometown.
I've worked as a graphic, costume and fashion designer. I love design, architecture, DIY, sewing, crafts, and dance. After my husband and I bought an abandoned townhouse, designed and renovated it, I fulfilled a lifelong dream. Now that it's done, enjoy it with us!
