You are at one of the world's best birding destinations if you are in Southeastern AZ. Whether you are a birder or just want to enjoy mild winter, dark skies, or cooler summer "monsoon" rains when the gulf winds bring rains to our desert. Elevation and climate rule. Geologic history has created mountain ranges called "sky islands" with high deserts and grasslands to blanket the area around them. There are four canyon areas plus a Riparian Conservation area within a 10 to 20 mile area from the charming guest house you are located in. The places attract birds and mammals alike. Bisbee, Tombstone, Kartchner Caverns, Sonoita and Elgin vineyards, Amerind Foundation, Wings over Wilcox are all perfect daytrips.
The Sundowner's one bedroom country cottage is completely furnished with all the amenities. The living room area has a queen size hide-a-bed for extra sleeping, dining area and full kitchen are one large open space. The bedroom with a queen size bed, comfortable mattress, chest of drawers and closet is private. The laundry room contains a washer and dryer and has a back outside door that is convenient to an available clothesline. You will enjoy your own private porch to sip margaritas and watch the sunset, a patio area under the trees for al fresco dining, and outdoor fire pit for gathering to roast marshmallows and tell tall tales.
The house was built for the property owner's parents to have long visits. The family has lived on the seven acre property since 1974. Our three children grew up in a country setting. They have all since grown up and moved away but love coming home to Cochise County. The Sundowner's name came about because we all left to go to work and school in the mornings and all came home in the evenings at Sundown or in the shadows of the mountains.
There also exists a Little House on the edge of the property. It is rented to an archaeologist who works on the Fort. The Sundowner property is seven acres of native grasses, trees and a desert wash running through the property. Guests may access the property respecting others privacy. In addition to seeing an abundance of birds, you are almost certain to see javalina and coyote and maybe even a bobcat. We look forward to hostings you at the Sundowner. Bring binoculars!!!!!

I live with my husband in our home called the Sundowner. Our three children are grown and love coming back to Cochise County. I am very active; walk 3 miles (almost) every day, am an avid reader and my husband and I go to a movie if one is to our liking once or twice a month. We love to get together with family and cook, eat, drink and enjoy each other. I volunteer once a week for the Friends of the SanPedro River, meeting people from all over the globe who have the same interests in birding and environmental issues as we do there trying to keep the desert river flowing. We enjoy being in the desert in Hereford as well as the pine trees and high country in the White Mountains. I am also an artist and do all kinds of art from painting furniture, watercolors, acrylics, to painting doors and walls. Most of the paintings in the Crown Dancer and the Sundowner guesthouse are mine.
