Unterkünfte in Blisland
Escape to the beautiful wilderness of the North Cornish coast, close to Port Isaac & Polzeath. Stay in a handcrafted shepherd's hut with curved ash beams & Salamander wood burner on a converted railway line. Relax in your own private hot tub with only the local cows for company. Or explore the nearby woods, go swimming, fishing & boating on the magical freshwater lake. A perfect break for couples or a solo traveller wanting to unwind. For updates check "Free Range Escapes" on social media
The shepherd's hut is based at Cornish Tipi Holidays/Weddings also known as Tregildrans Quarry and this is our beautiful second hut at this unique site. Both huts have their own individual character, the biggest difference is that Bluebell hut has its own wood fired couples hot tub - perfect for relaxing in style in the great outdoors. The site has a woodland valley folded around a clear, spring-fed lake created from the old quarry. The hut is at the top of a secret 20 acres clothed in ferns and bluebells, oak and meadowsweet. Undisturbed by modern agrochemicals and herbicides the natural ecosystem has flourished, providing a thriving habitat for flowers and butterflies, birds and mammals. It’s a place a world apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about in a boat. The Shepherd's Hut itself is situated in a recently reclaimed part of the site on the old railway line which was taken out in the 60's, reclaimed by nature until now! Guests will have full access to the whole site & all its faculties. 20 acres of woodland to explore and a freshwater lake to swim, boat and fish in. As well as your own secluded garden space complete with an open fire and garden furniture & couples wood fired hot tub. The shepherds hut has its own private compositing loo and wooden shower shed (made partly from pallets) both outside. You are of course allowed full access to any of the other loo/shower blocks on site. There is also electricity!! Solar powered lights & USB sockets make it easy to charge items or read a book after the sun goes down. However please be aware that there are not any standard plug sockets in the hut. The aim is to have created a space which makes you feel like you are out in nature & the elements but with more comfort than basic camping.
At Free Range Escapes you are a five minute drive from some of the prettiest villages and most spectacular coastline in Cornwall. You can buy fresh mackerel, scallops and crab in the fish cellars at Port Isaac within 10 minutes of leaving your Shepherd's Hut, go sea kayaking under soaring cliffs at Port Quin or take a surfing class on Polzeath’s trend setting shoreline. We have some phenomenal walking right on our doorstep; the Cornwall Coastal Footpath, the Saints’ Way, but unfortunately a car is still usually needed to get you there. 15 minutes up the coast brings you to Tintagel Castle and the ancient village of Boscastle, and the same distance inland lets you walk the rugged solitude of Bodmin Moor. We have a variety of good shops, pubs and restaurants in the area including the now nationally famous Seafood Restaurant in Padstow – book a return with the late water taxi across the moonlit estuary from Rock for a special evening out. You can go on fishing trips, bird watching walks, sea safaris, sailing and windsurfing courses, learn to ride, golf, play tennis, see a touring theatre production, work in watercolours, take a master class in seafood cookery, explore Cornish history, attend a music or literary festival, or just go cycling together on the beaufiful Camel Trail nearby. If you’re prepared to go a little further afield try a day trip by tiny plane to the glorious Isles of Scilly off Land’s End, or a trip to the Minack Theatre set outside on the cliffs high above Porthcurno, or closer by visit the massive biodomes of the ever popular Eden Project.

Before booking please see booking details under The Space below.... The Barn is a recently converted, luxury romantic retreat situated in a secluded, hidden valley overlooking the Warleggan river. Surrounded by wildlife, majestic oaks and bluebell woods, it is within easy reach of many of Cornwall's unique locations.
A beautiful, recently converted (2016) stone barn in a private 14 acre estate with stunning views of the Glynn valley overlooking the Warleggan river, The Barn at Lower Tredinnick provides a luxury detached cottage with everything you need for a total escape from it all. Booking details: We offer a 3 day weekend break (arrive Fri, leave Mon) and/or a 4 day mid-week break (arrive Mon, leave Friday) or any combination of these, particularly during standard UK holidays (high season). In 2020 these are: spring half term 14-24 Feb, Easter holiday 3-19 April, summer half term 22 May - 1 June, summer holidays 24 Jul - 7 September, autumn half term 19 Oct-2 Nov, Christmas & New Year 2020 negotiable. Out of high season, we are often happy to be flexible so please do get in touch if Mon - Fri or Fri - Mon doesn't suit your plans. The Barn is designed by award winning sustainable local architects, Arco 2. Heated throughout by an under-floor eco air-source system, fully insulated and double-glazed, you will always be warm and comfortable. Electricity is 100% renewable. The kitchen is equipped with A rated dishwasher, washer drier, induction cooker, fridge freezer, toaster, electric kettle and all you might need in a home from home (if there is something you need that's not there we will endeavour to provide it). We supply a small honesty larder of basics, such as tea, coffee, oil and vinegar, salt, pepper & herbs; please replace what you use and/or add to the store. The living room has a French "Godin" woodburner with a generous supply of free logs, providing extra warmth in the winter months and a large comfortable sofa with wonderful views over the valley. There's a wireless music system for you to plug into, books, rainy day games, maps and local information. There are bifold glass doors which give access to a balcony where you can sit and enjoy meals outside. We have a charcoal barbecue & utensils you can borrow, just ask and bring your own charcoal. Upstairs, there is modern shower room and the bedroom has a comfortable king size double bed and all the space you need to store your belongings. It is decorated in a restful blue and is further enhanced with soft lighting. There are french windows leading to a secluded south facing patio where you can sit out and lose yourself in the peaceful surroundings. Please get in touch for any further information. We are sometimes able to be flexible about arrival and leaving times depending on our bookings. We have a travel cot for babies (babes in arms) if needed at no extra charge. Unfortunately we are not able to accomodate children due to the wild nature of the property (built on the edge of a substantial drop and near a river, etc.) We cannot accommodate dogs or any pets as, however pleasant and obedient, they do have an effect on the local wildlife, which we are trying to encourage. Please bring your own beach towels.
This is cornish countryside at its best. Walk in the woods or stroll by the river. Or just sit outside and enjoy the view. Buzzards fly over head, marsh tits feed on our feeder and the butterflies and wild flowers are prolific. There is no light pollution so on cloudless nights the stars are fantastic. Watch out for shooting stars!

Vielen Dank!

Set in 3.5 acres of paradise on the edge of Bodmin moor. A crystal clear stream meanders through woods with two waterfalls, a beautiful lake and bridges. Our own pine forest and Decked bbq and hot tub area. Millpool Lodge has entrance lobby, a lounge, two bedrooms, kitchen, two toilets, shower and outside seating. Close to Eden project, Polzeath, Rock, Fowey, Cardinham Woods, Camel Bike Trail, Siblyback and Colliford Lakes Lanhydrock House, and the open moorland walks with abundent wild life .
A truly magical garden. Full of wildlife, squirrels, rabbits and goldfinches and even herons and ducks flock to the lake and stream. Two bridges and waterfalls provide calming back ground sound. You will not want to leave this little piece of paradise. There is decked bbq and hot tub area with night lighting ideal for socialising and enjoying the great views. A picnic area through the pine woods creates an ideal day time area for play and keeping fit . In the more formal part of the garden there is a fountain and night time lighting, with plenty of places to sit and enjoy an evening by the stream and lake. We like to encourage the wildlife, so we leave areas of the meadow, woods and lake free for the wild flowers to grow and encourage some of our rarer wildlife in to the garden. The Lodge has two bedrooms one double bedroom and one small bedroom with a sturdy bunk bed with comfortable mattresses. Ideal for 2 adults and 2 children. We also have a travel cot available. There is a footpath leading to Cardinham woods, and direct access to the moors. We are close also to Lanhydrock House, Colliford Lake, Siblyback Watersports Park, and Eden project and St Breward (Poldark Country). Easy access to both the south and north coast. Lovely Fowey being our nearest south coast venue, and Polzeath, Rock and Padstow on the north coast. Particular mention should be made of the excellent cycle trails from Bodmin to Padstow via Wadebridge, and also the cycle track from Bodmin up to the Moors. Cardinham and Lanhydrock woods also have amazing national cycle tails - Ideal for a family bike trip and highly recommended. We also offer a range of watersports activities. A day out on our 7.5 Jeanneau power boat visiting all the coves and beautiful waters of the Fal estuary. Wakeboarding and waterskiing, coastal kayak tour to get close to nature and visit some of our quiet and inaccessible coves. We can also advise on a complete list of activities as we are ideally placed to enjoy both north and south coast. We are right on the edge of an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The moors are exceptionally quiet and beautiful at any time of year. For getting in touch with nature and beautiful landscape it cannot be beaten. Moorland cattle and ponies mingle with Stags and Roedeer making an idyllic country scene. We are central to all areas in Cornwall being half a mile from the arterial A30. So an ideal spot for exploring wonderful Cornwall. We are always happy to offer advice to make the most of your holidays. The gardens are magnificent at any time of year, and you will find great tranquility and beauty in this wonderful garden.
We are close to the Eden Project and just 12 miles from either the north or south Cornish coast. On the edge of Bodmin Moor which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Close to Lanhydrock, Eden Project, Siblyback Lake, Colliford Lake, Camel Trail, Cardinham Wood Walking and Bike Trails, Fowey and Rock and Polzeath. There are many wonderful walks and places of historic interest to visit. We are also just half a mile from the main artery A30 which means you have easy access to the whole of Cornwall. We will leave a guide of recommended places to visit. But always check out the Conrwall Tourist Board site it has loads of information.
  • Beeindruckend.

Keira xx

Stay in this hand-crafted Shepherd's hut that is hidden away in Primrose Cottage's beautiful garden. The Shepherd's hut has a toasty wood-burner, comfortable double bed and is self-contained with your own cooking facilities, ensuite bijou bathroom- complete with a shower.
This hut was made using reclaimed materials by myself and my good friend Mike. Since making this hut we have started a business together making shepherd huts called Pumphrey and Weston. In the hut there is a kitchen with single hob, wood burning stove, shower, toilet and basin. The double bee is a comfy memory foam mattress.
St Mabyn is a picturesque Cornish village, with a great pub, shop and church. It is located near to Polzeath, Tintagel, Rock, Port Issac and Padstow. The Eden Project is about a 30 minute drive.

Schau einfach!

A little home from home in the middle of no-where but close to all the places you may want to visit. The "Moo"tel was formally a cattle shed (hence the name). It now sleeps 4- 1 double bed and a double sofa bed and is also very dog friendly!
If your after a laid back countryside holiday then The "Moo"tel is for you its the perfect base for exploring Cornwall. The "Moo"tel comfortably sleeps 4 in 1 double bed and a pullout sofa bed in the lounge and also a bed for your four legged friend. There is one bathroom with electric power shower, a spacious kitchen/diner and cosy lounge with a sofa bed and the added luxury of a wood burner. Located next to the owners property and adjacent to our other 3 bedroom holiday barn, this comfortable and stylish conversion has its own private enclosed garden with bbq and seating area and views over the surrounding countryside and fields (and our 4 resident horses). Dog are extremely welcome. We just ask that we are informed at the time of booking so we can get all his/her treats ready for arrival. We also ask for ten pounds to be left on the dining room table before check out just to cover the extra cleaning costs. The "Moo"tel is the ideal base for exploring the whole of Cornwall with a host of nearby sandy beaches such as Perranporth, Crantock, Harlyn Bay and Fistral. Cornish villages and towns such as Fowey, Port Issac (The home of Doc Martin), Historic Lostwithiel, The fishing town of Looe, Charlestown and Padstow. The famous Eden Project is only a 29 minute drive and is well worth the visit. There are many local walks including Cardinham woods and Cafe, Respryn, Lanhydrock, Golitha Falls, Siblyback and Colliford lake.

The garden Studio is a sunny king size annex ringed with windows, it's own garden entrance & en suite bathroom - French Press (cafetiere) and tea, coffee, milk and croissants for your first morning's breakfast. In the centre of Blisland, a gorgeous village with a green, church, a shop/post office with cafe & The Blisland Inn, award winning pub, a short stumble away. We are on the edge of Bodmin moor with miles of views, walks & wild ponies, only a mile from the Camel Trail & Cycle route 3.
The Artists Studio www.airbnb.co.uk/h/cornish-hideaway THE HOUSE The house is set just off the village green and near to the popular pub, the Blisland Inn, in the very beautiful village of Blisland on the edge of Bodmin Moor. It feels very quiet and rural but is only 5 minutes off the main A30 and 10 minutes away from Bodmin with all the ameneties and shops. The Studio is an annexe of our house with a king size bedroom and en-suite bath, and has its own private entrance from its designated parking space, through the garden and to the French doors into the room. Here’s some of the details on this Cornish hideaway. - Private access - Designated parking space - King size bed (or two singles if requested in advance) - En-suite bathroom with full bath, shower over, lots of towels, airing cupboard, hair drier, iron and compact ironing board, chest of drawers and basic toiletries - At one end of the main room is a small dining area with table and chairs - Small refrigerator for milk and other necessities - Toaster - Plates, cutlery, coffee cups, wine glasses and water filter - Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and croissants for first morning are provided as well as a selection of cereal boxes – so you don’t need to think about breakfast for your first morning with us. THE GARDEN You will have almost exclusive access and use of our beautiful back garden. Right outside your door is a granite paved patio with garden furniture and a chiminea for warmth on chilly evenings, so make yourself a cup of coffee and sit out in the sun and enjoy the tranquility of our idyll. You also have use of our lawn but please note there is a sunken feature in the garden we affectionally call the sump with a small trickle of a river running through it. We rarely come into the back garden so you can feel very private there. PARKING You have your own parking space for the Artists Studio which leads right into the back garden and to the door to the room. EATING OUT There are no cooking facilities provided but there is a small fridge and a toaster, you are welcome to bring supplies and eat in the studio, but if you would like to eat out the nearest is the Blisland Inn which is a 2 minute walk away, they do good pub classics and a superb Sunday lunch (book ahead for that). Within a 6 mile radius you have other pub grub options, St Tudy Inn has a very well though of restaurant that has received Michelin Bib Gourmand for 2017. The St Maybyn Inn is also known for their food and the S Breward Inn has a famous carvery. If you fancy a fancy meal, Rick Stein’s at Padstow is only 15 miles away. GREAT FOR COUPLES- The Studio is the perfect size for a couple wanting a getaway to the countryside and enjoy a little peace and quiet, and with the pub just next door you need never leave the centre of Blisland if you don't feel like it. GREAT FOR CYCLISTS – The Studio is on national Cycle Route 3 and lies less that a mile from the Camel Trail an 18 mile off road permissive way that runs along the River Camel from St Breward to Padstow along an old railway track. The Camel Trail is used by cyclists, walkers, joggers and horseriders. If you like a more demanding route we are only a mile away from Bodmin Moor where you can cycle for hours and hours. For trail riders there is the new mountainbiking trails at Cardinham Woods and Lanhydrock. GREAT FOR WALKERS – The Artists Studio is just off Bodmin Moor with hundreds of miles of footpaths and ancient monuments to explore including Neolithic hut circles, stone circles, ancient field systems and the 1000’s of years of habitation remains at Roughtor and Brown Willy. We are also within easy reach by car of the Cornish Coast Path with 100’s of miles of coastline walks GREAT FOR NATIONAL TRUST MEMBERS – We are about 6 miles away from Lanhydrock one of the Trusts most popular stately homes as well as many other Trust properties. GREAT FOR SURFERS, BEACHLOVERS AND WILD SWIMMING ENTHUSIASTS – The Studio is a half hour drive from Polzeath Beach with fantastic surf and lots of surfboard and wetsuit hire options as well as boutiques and restaurants. We are also not far from the fantastic surfing beaches of the Newquay area and within easy reach of the more gentle beaches along the south coast if you enjoy wild swimming. GREAT FOR EXPLORERS – If you enjoy visiting quaint fishing villages like Port Isaac – where Dr Martin is filmed, Padstow or Fowey – Daphne DeMaurier’s old haunt then this is a good base to explore from.
Blisand is in the heartland of North Cornwall, Bodmin Moor, where you will find hundreds of miles of trails and where herds of wild ponies roam free. Bodmin Moor is littered with Neolithic sites and mysterious stone circles. Because of our central Cornwall location we are near both the North and South coasts so if you love surfing head North to Polzeath or Newquay or if you prefer a gentler seaside experience head south to explore the coves and villages around Fowey and Mevagissey. If you are a fan of Doc Martin and Poldark lots of filming sites are within easy reach of us such as Port Isaac the location of fictional Port Wenn and Poldark's house is up on the moor only 3 miles from us. If your kind of holiday involves roaring fires and good food there are many wonderful pubs and restaurants near us and I am happy to make recommendations.
Christina bietet großzügig Hilfe an.

Recently restored- self contained unit complete with own bedroom, bathroom, hallway and kitchenette. There is a relaxing atmosphere to the area. You are able to sit outside and enjoy looking out onto the garden and watch the many birds. We welcome well behaved dogs and have provided a small self contained area for them. Five minutes walk from the Camel Trail, many other footpaths and areas for walking. Blisland is a mile away where there is a pub, community shop and post office.
This is a quiet, beautiful area of north Cornwall. Great access to beaches, walks, cycle paths. Parking is in the drive off the road and we are able to offer shelter and security for bikes. There are a few steps to the property. The annexe is locked and secure from other internal rooms.
Brilliantly located for walking and cycling or visiting Cornwall. Good selection of local pubs (Blisland Inn a mile away) The moors and woodland are stunning. Our nearest beaches include Rock, Trebarwith, Polzeath - about 12/15 miles.

My lovely home is situated on a the new Borough View estate, just a stones throw from The Camel Trail and Bodmin Town Centre. Bodmin is also right in the middle of the county, so offers easy access to all of Cornwall's towns, beaches and activities. My house was built in Summer 2016 so has everything you would expect from a new build.
The house (Coach House, it's like a bungalow but upstairs) has in own private front door with stairs inside the house. It was built in 2016 and has a beautiful open plan living area with high ceilings. The Room its self, has a very comfortable single bed, large chest of draws, a small wardrobe and bedside table. The separate bathroom has a bath, shower and WC for your own private use.
Walking distance to Bodmin and the Camel trail. The closest shop, Home bargains is just 5 minutes walk away and stocks essentials like bread, milk and wine. There is also a pub just 5 minutes walk away.

Martin

Kovva Cabin is a small but perfectly formed hideaway for two in the Cornish countryside. Situated on the edge of the village you'll be greeted by views across fields to the moors in the distance. A studio set up, the cabin features a living space with sofa, smart TV with direct access to Netflix and Amazon Prime as well as on demand service from the BBC etc., dining furniture, built-in wardrobe, gas central heating and a wood burning stove. There's a Google smart speaker on the wall for music, help and advice. Large windows look out into the garden. The mezzanine bedroom is accessed via a staircase where a comfy kingsize Caspar mattress and pure linen bed sheets should help you enjoy the quiet nights. A Velux roof window looks up into the tree canopy and has a blackout blind. Handy USB charging points are located up there too, along with a wireless lamp to create a warm glow at night. There is limited headroom on the mezzanine and you cannot stand up but it has a soft wool carpet and enough width to make it a comfortable space to relax in. The kitchen is fully equipped for a self-catering holiday with a gas hob over a Neff electric oven, a toaster, fridge with freezer compartment, and the usual collection of saucepans and utensils you would expect to find, including a cafetière for brewing your morning coffee. The bathroom has a carved marble basin sat on top of a teak vanity unit, heated towel rail to keep your Egyptian cotton towels warm and dry, a shower and toilet. Step out onto the covered deck to enjoy the fresh air in all weather. Outside, you have your own garden with patio furniture and a fire pit to toast marshmallows on. We also have a beginners surfboard available for guests to borrow - just ask.
Our cute Cornish village is just minutes from the rolling surf of the north Cornish coast. Just a short walk from the cabin and you'll find a traditional pub serving food, a café, the village shop and Post Office, and a butcher. We are close to some fantastic beaches, perfect for a walk, exploring the coast path, or hitting the surf at Polzeath. We'll help you find a quiet cove for lazy summer days.

A modern converted garage situated a short distance from the historical town of bodmin, yet still close enough to the A30 to get around Cornwall easily. One bedroom but can sleep up to 4 using the double sofa bed. Can also offer a travel cot if needed. Property benefits from under floor heating and a wetroom. On road parking and Wi-Fi.
It's very quiet here. the neighborhood is lovely and friendly. The views are spectacular. The road isn't very busy there's not much traffic. Little Beatrice isn't overlooked so it's quite private. It's just a nice area and we think you'd enjoy spending time here.

Standing stones, burial chambers, clapper bridges cottages and farms across the moor give a hint of the 4000 years of human development ever since Bronze Age farmers first arrived.Port Isaac is about 4 miles to the North West and this has recently been the base of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, there are a good selection of cafes shops and pubs. Further up the coast there are all of the golden beaches and coves between Polzeath and Tintagel with some of the best surf in Europe.Bodmin lies a few miles to South West and has a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

Bodmin was the former county town of Cornwall for many years and the only Cornish town to be recorded in the Domesday Book, which was lodged in the town's prison during the First World War. The county prison is now a museum and open to the public. It was the first prison in the country to have separate cells. The oldest part of the town is made up of mainly granite buildings clustered around the Bodmin Beacon. The Beacon is a 144 feet tall obelisk in memory of Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert. The area around the Beacon which has woodland and traditional hay meadow was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1994.Nearby Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwalls Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwalls highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. Near Blisland you will find two of Cornwalls stone circles, the Trippet Stones and Stripple Stone Henge and just round the corner, one end of the famous Camel Trail. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families.

Badgers Cottage is a delightful property in the hamlet of Warleggan positioned high on the moors above Bodmin and with spectacular rural views from the garden of rolling Cornish countryside.
Positioned within the small hamlet of Warleggan on the south side of Bodmin Moor, Badgers Cottage is a delightful, dog friendly property, with a wood burning stove to keep you cosy on a blustery autumn day and a quiet garden with far reaching rural views, a perfect spot for a summer al fresco dinner or barbecue. If you are wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of city life you will not find anywhere more peaceful. Before Warleggan was linked to the A38 in 1953 and more recently to the A30 it was considered one of the remotest parts of the county, now a mere 4 miles from the dual carriageway this hamlet offers fabulous links to both the North Coast and it's glorious golden sands, secluded coves and wild promontories but also the pretty fishing villages and artists retreat along the South Coast including Looe and Polperro, the Eden project, Lanhydrock House and the start of the Camel trail.Accommodation Ground Floor: Conservatory with view over the garden and dining table and chairs, access to double aspect bedroom with zip and link beds, at the other end of the conservatory is a door to the fully equipped kitchen and this further leads through to the hall way with oil fired stove which also provides heating and hot water, further door into the lounge with wood burning stove and comfortable seating. There is a pub & shop 3.5 miles away at St Neot. Bodmin, with all amenities, including various large supermarkets is 7 miles away.Bodmin Moor, bisected by the newly expanded A30 is home to one of Cornwalls Areas of Oustanding Natural Beauty. Reaching a height of 1,377 feet above sea level at Brown Willy, Cornwalls highest point. The heather covered granite moorland provides East Cornwall with the most stunning country views and rugged walks. The 18 mile Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths, providing a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge out to Padstow, eminently suitable for families. The National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow neighbours Rick Steins empire on the North Coast. The Bodmin and Wenford Railway, the first steam operated railway in Cornwall, takes in 13 miles of countryside. Also just outside Bodmin is the Camel Valley Vineyard who have been winning awards for their home grown wine for the past 20 years. The National Trust have three properties nearby Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas and Bedruthan Steps. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell.North Cornwall is as famous for its rugged coastline as it is for its surfing. You can hire surf boards and equipment from Polzeath, up as far as Bude and Widemouth Bay. Boscastle is the only natural harbour for 20 miles and at low tides and certain weather conditions you can find a blowhole at the mouth of the harbour. Tintagel brings with it legends of King Arthur and the remains of Tintagel Castle can be visited on foot. Nearby Camelford is rumoured to be the Camelot of legends past, and the finding of 'Arthurs Stone' in 1998 has only fuelled these myths. On Bodmin Moor, Dozmary pond is thought to contain Arthur's Excalibur, and Merlin is thought to be still found walking under Tintagel Island. Port Isaac is the location of the televisions series Poldark and more recently Doc Martin, as well as being a gorgeous working fishing village.Bodmin Jail built in 1778, notorious for its public executions by hanging, was the first jail to be built housing inmates in individual cells. The Jail closed in 1927 and is now a museum open to the public, which during the First World War housed the Crown Jewels and the Doomsday Book. The famous Camel Trail follows the route of the old railway along traffic free paths for 18 miles, providing the whole family with a fairly flat cycle through Bodmin and Wadebridge, and out to Padstow where you can sample Rick Steins famous Fish and Chips. The market town of Launceston is the capital of Cornwall and well worth a visit to see the church of St Mary Magdelene, with granite carvings, unusual among Cornish churches.

The nearest good country pub is in the middle of St Breward - The Old Inn famed for being Cornwalls highest pub, they have an excellent atmospheric bar with beamed ceilings and roaring log fires (in the winter of course!) The pub was originally built in the 11th century to house the monks who constructed the church next door. There is also a village shop which stocks a wide range of local produce. If you fancy sampling other areas of Cornwall, Trippet Cottage's central location gives really good access to the A39 North Coast road from Tintagel down to Newquay and also to the A30 which can take you further west towards Penzance and Mounts Bay with St Michaels Mount. Wadebridge, once a Market Town is now more widely known as being part of The Camel Trail, the cycle route out to Padstow from the depths of Bodmin Moor, on the old tram way route. You can hire a bike at the start of the trail and cycle to Padstow, now famous for being home to Rick Steins Seafood Restaurant, amongst other properties the celebrity chef owns in the town. From Padstow you could take a boat trip across the Camel Estuary to Rock, and lounge on the beautiful beach that stretches all the way around to Daymer Bay. The National Lobster Hatchery neighbours Rick Steins empire in Padstow. The Royal Cornwall Show ground at Wadebridge hosts the county show every June, come rain or shine, opened each year by a member of the Royal Family. Cornish Farmers have had to diversify in recent years and so has the show, but they have kept their traditional roots with steam engines being shown next to the shiny new high-tech tractors. It's not every day you get to see formation JCB digger dancing in the main ring. The National Trust have three properties nearby, Lanhydrock House, Trerice and Carnewas. Slightly further afield is the Eden Project in St Austell, famously built in a disused china clay pit.

Standing stones, burial chambers, clapper bridges cottages and farms across the moor give a hint of the 4000 years of human developement ever since Bronze age farmers first arrived.Port Isaac is about 6 miles to the North West and this has recently been the base of filming for "Doc Martin" with Martin Clunes, there are a good selection of cafes shops and pubs. Further up the coast there are all of the golden beaches and coves between Polzeath and Tintagel with some of the best surf in Europe.Bodmin lies a few miles to South West and has a large selection of supermarkets, shops and restaurants.

Park Lodge 9 is situated 1/2 a mile from St Tudy a quaint Cornish village, the church around which the village was built was first constructed in the 6th century and then rebuilt in the 11th, 15th and latterly 19th centuries. The village has been built around the original Celtic circular raised graveyard - known locally as "God's Acre!" St Tudy is believed to be the birthplace of Captain Bligh of the "Mutiny on the Bounty" fame! The St Tudy Inn (formerly the Cornish Arms) will welcome you in for a refreshing drink, a hearty meal or both! Bodmin Moor is a couple of miles away to the East and is dominated by large granite tors which tower over sweeping expanses of moorland. Bodmin Moor has engendered fear and awe throughout history and hence provided inspiration for writers, poets and sculptors. The estuary is alive in the summer with all manner of boats including windsurfers and water skiers. If you don't fancy venturing out on the water there are fine walks across to Braey Hill and further to St Endoc Church (the last resting place of Sir John Betjemen) where there are stunning views across to Doom Bar and Stepper Point. The mile long sandy beach stretches all the way to Daymer Bay at low tide and as there are no waves in Rock it is ideal for swimming. Rock is reputed to be home to more millionaires than anywhere else in Cornwall and it comes as no surprise that it also boasts a Michelin starred restaurant, the Black Pig. A foot ferry is able to take you across to the incredibly popular Padstow or 'Padstein' as it is nicknamed due to the amount of Rick Stein's food venues on offer. It is here that you can hire a bike and cycle along the Camel Trail if you fancy.Polzeath is a small seaside resort about 6 miles north of Wadebridge and is known to have one of the best surfing beaches in Cornwall. This long sandy beach combined with Atlantic swells provides ideal conditions with which to improve your surfing skills. The beach is prefect for families, there are lifeguards on duty and the village has a number of restaurants, pubs and cafes to cater for your needs. The coastal path passes through Polzeath to Daymer Bay and Rock in one direction and New Polzeath and Pentire Point in the other. There are miles of beautiful coastline where dolphins can sometimes be spotted and this is a wonderful area for birds such as puffins, kittiwakes and gannets.
