Mökki is the perfect mix of cozy log cabin and hip downtown life. This charming abode is located along a quiet street - just a block away from main street. It is within a short walk of Grand Marais' restaurants, pubs, shops, sailboat harbor, folk school, art colony and more.
Mökki, a Finnish word for cottage, was hand crafted by the owner and is a masterful work of art. Enjoy some down time on the front porch or cozy up in the sleeping loft - this place has a lot of charm. Surrounding the cabin is a large yard with garden beds and plenty of tree cover. The cabin sleeps up to 3; there is 1 queen bed in the loft and 1 single pull-out on the main floor. Please note that the stairs to the bedroom are steep - it is not a ladder so rest assured that the steps can be descended normally, aka by facing forward. The kitchen is equipped with a two burner electric stove, a mini fridge, a microwave, pots, pans, silverware, dishes and glassware. For your coffee you can choose from a drip cone or a coffee maker. This snug cabin has all you'll need for your northern getaway.

The 'Lighthouse' is a special lodging overlooking the town and harbor of Grand Marais from it's center. You are right in the heart of town within a block of everything. Ask us about our "Social Distancing Vacation" for longer stays. Discounts will apply. Very popular vacation rental with loyal, returning clientele. And now something new: a new Finnish sauna is available on site- see details. Professionally deep cleaned after each stay.
You are right in the heart of town within a block of everything- yet comfortably removed when you need a breather. You can sit up in bed and view the harbor and the big lake beyond. Your own private parking leads to the stairway that takes you up to the Lighthouse. The view of the old harbor from the balcony is stunning. There is a wrought iron table and chairs on the balcony for relaxing. Inside the Lighthouse you will find a queen bed, tile shower and bathroom, galley kitchen, custom dining table for two, LCD TV with satalite TV and blueray. The bed is set at an angle and faces southeast to capture the views of the harbor in the morning through large windows. Many of our guests ache for a connection with nature (with high thread count sheets), reconnection with each other, and permission to come to a full stop for deep rest. No one says this out loud, but we think that’s their intrinsic motivation. There are transom windows around the perimeter of the apartment so that if you stand in the center you have a 360 degree view of the sky. Notice how it changes as the day progresses. Observe the color differences around sunset or early in the morning as the Great Lake passes through it's moods. The ceiling is very high and is vaulted and timberframed with unique 'Dragon Beams' from local timberframe artisans. Topping the lighthouse is an octagonal cupola that lets light in all day and moonlight at night. And on top of the cuppola is a custom copper ball, in keeping with the lighthouses of the North Shore. An antique ship's light occupies the cuppola and can guide you as you walk home after a night of festivities in the town. Seagulls are your companions and you may hear their webby feet tapping on the roof in the morning. Watch the fog roll in and out from your bed while you drink your morning coffee, and listen to the strains of local live music as the town celebrates the short summers at night. The galley kitchen is small but thoroughly modern with all the necessities. The Lighthouse is above the 'North Shore Fisherman's Cabin', a restored historic log home and vacation rental and is next door to the 'Writer's Cabin' and 'The Boathouse' a recently constructed timberframe home that is the residence of the owners. You are always welcome to drop in to the Boathouse and see what project is under way. Currently the owner is building an Alaskan skiff, and preparing another boat for excursions to the Canadian North Shore. If you are traveling with a large group, consider including the neighboring Fisherman's and Writer's cabin rentals which share the property. There is capacity for a group of 12 or so if you rent all the cabins. You can get the whole family reunion or wedding group on one site! The Lighthouse is known for it's inspiring charm. There have been plays and musicals written here, a handfull of marriage proposals, and a good number of honeymoons. Come share the fantastic energy that is The Lighthouse. Update: a Finnish Sauna has been installed on the property. For a one time fee of $49 you can have access to the sauna, receive robes and additional towels, and instructions for use. It is right next door.
This is the heart of old Grand Marais. The Lighthouse is part of it's own micro neighborhood inside the Harborview neighborhood of Grand Marais. We are very near the water, North House Folk School, the Art Colony, Java Moose Coffee house, and all the restaurants and entertaimnent. Everything is in short walking distance. Once you've arrived you can leave your keys on the counter- you won't need your car.

The Writer's Cabin is a quaint, long established residence hidden in the oldest part of town. This historic cabin has been fully restored and modernized. It has a fireplace, a two person jetted tub, private setting, full kitchen, direct TV, vaulted ceilings, beams, windows, skylight, private patio with table and chairs, close to the harbor and all the attractions of town. This is an established vacation rental with great history- be the next chapter in the long story that is the Writer's Cabin.
The Writer's Cabin has been fully restored and modernized to provide all the creature comforts and yet remain historic in nature. Set amidst lush landscaping, the cabin is only steps from the harbor. All amenities are provided including an enameled cast iron gas fireplace, a therapeutic air tub for two, a top of the line queen bed, a well equipped modern kitchen, satellite TV with flat screen and theatre surround, an antique secretary writing desk, high speed wireless internet, and various objects of interest representative of famous writers and local writers including locally written books and Ernest Hemmingway's favorite model of typewriter. This is a fantastic location close to everything. Many of our guests ache for a connection with nature (with high thread count sheets), reconnection with each other, and permission to come to a full stop for deep rest. No one says this out loud, but we think that’s their intrinsic motivation. We professionally deep clean between all guests. Ask about our "Social Distancing" vacation discount for extended stays. With nine windows and one skylight, there is great natural light throughout the little cabin. Seagulls and fog greet you when you rise. The grounds of the property are planted with a variety of native and boreal flowering plants, flowering shrubs and fruit trees. It is a garden like setting with various perennial, annual, and produce plantings. The outdoor space has a balanced blend of sun and shade, functionality and whimsicality. This is a space intended as an exclusive retreat from the rigors of small town life. It is designed so that you can be as private as your vacation requires. Dense schrubs and tall fences ensure your own seclusion. Visitors are encouraged to flag down the owners if you see them. If you wish to enjoy the The Finnish Sauna house next door, it is available for the duration of your stay for up to 4 uses for a one time fee of $49. Robes, extra towels and instructions will be provided. Pets: We want to be accepting of dogs. We love our dogs. But if we incur property damage from dogs we will remove ourselves from accepting dogs. Most vacation rentals in our region do not accept dogs and we want to keep this option open. Our future is up to you. If you love dogs and dog culture, please be a good ambassador of dog culture and let’s keep this good thing going. Only dogs- no other animals- are allowed with an acceptance of the pet addendum and pet fee of $30. Guests will receive a pet fee request once the reservation process is complete and prior to arrival. Up to one very well behaved dog up to 60lbs and their owners that are in agreement with our policies are welcome. If the dog is over 60 lbs or if there is more than one, Guests will provide to owner the following information: Type of pet, Name, Weight, Age and owner will confirm or ask questions. So send us a message and we will get back to you right away. If your dog is not habituated to portable kennels please contact us. All pets must comply with the following specifications: A) Must not exceed 60 lbs unless approved B) Must be at least 1 year old C) Must be up to date on rabies vaccinations and all other vaccinations. Heart worm preventative is highly recommended. Other important pet requirements: 1) No dogs can be left unattended for any length of time without portable kennels. Pets can get nervous in new surroundings and cause property damage with scraping, urinating, and can cause irritation to neighbors with barking or howling when you leave for dinner etc... If you have any issues with keeping your pet in a portable kennel please let us know. If your dogs are not comfortable or have not been habituated to a portable kennel you are perfectly welcome to put your pets in the car with you when you leave as long as it is not too warm out- which rarely happens in Grand Marais. 2)Your dog is never allowed off leash. Grand Marais has a leash law, and we have busy roads nearby and resident dogs on all sides that do not need the provocation. 3)Please clean up after your pet immediately, do not wait until you are completing your stay. Garbage cans are available on site. Do not let your dog do their business right near the home or near the sidewalks, and especially not on the corners of the home, the fences or rock walls. Try to get off property when doing business. 4)There are many great walks for you and your dog, if you need tips let us know. But just going down to the harbor is a great treat for most. Taking them just up the hill to the grassy curbside areas is a quick way to take care of business and is popular with the doggos. And if you want some space for them to run off leash there is a dog park up the hill. Ask us how to find it. 5)No dogs on beds or furniture without a clean, freshly washed blanket that you provide that they can’t scrape away. We use quality quilts and bed coverings and very expensive sofa material and dogs can not be allowed to scratch it and claw as it instinctively as they prepare to lay down. Thanks so much for your respect and consideration. We would love to meet your dog! We are happy to provide local knowledge on any activities, attractions, latest scuttlebut, or any other needs you may have. Feel free to contact us. Todd and Susan.
This is a very old neighborhood right near the harbor. It is a rare setting that the owners restored and preserved. It represents the Scandanavian tradition of creating micro neighborhoods within an existing neigborhood. You will see this throughout Grand Marais. It is very safe and surprisingly quiet considering it is a commercial downtown location. The noise of Hwy 61 is nicely distanced, as is the noise of the original Gunflint Trail. This particular setting is very close to all the action of town, but comfortably removed when you need a breather from all the excitement. We feel very lucky to own this special spot. Music can be heard in summer wafting through the air, fireworks are right out your front door on rare, special nights. The comings and goings of village life are all around you, yet still... this is a very private and serene location. This home is positioned on a small gravel ally with it's own driveway, it is not on a busy road.

The Skyhouse is proudly in keeping with the new Up North Modern movement. Other than her sister properties the Horizon, and the smaller Aurora, there is nothing like this anywhere on Earth. These are a very unique, and are a limited design intended to inspire, not just provide a roof over your head. Many of our guests ache for a connection with nature (with high thread count sheets), reconnection with each other, and permission to come to a full stop for deep rest. No one says this out loud, but we think that’s their intrinsic motivation. Enjoy the unique beauty of Grand Marais from this most unique and beautiful home. Ask us about our discounts for extended "Social Distancing" stays. The Sky House is local couple Todd and Susan Miller’s newest addition to their exclusive list of vacation rental property in the heart of Grand Marais near the harbor. Designed by celebrated Minnesota architect David Salmela to capture all the needs and dreams of a visitor to Grand Marias. We hope this will be the coolest lodging in America’s Coolest Small Town. By design the Sky House provides for all the needs of a vacationing party of up to 6 people in a 1264 Sq. Ft. home. In addition, the Sky House provides an inspiring modern space that allows for privacy among those sharing the lodging, and also provides a breathtaking great room area on the top floor with fantastic views of the Grand Marais harbor, the neighborhood, and the town close by. Everything is in walking distance from our little micro community in the heart of Grand Marais. Imagine the best exclusive lodge experience without sharing walls or having to pass through a front desk. Every restaurant, bar, coffee shop, gallery and Grand Marais' famous beach are all within a very short stroll from your private residence. The home is designed in modern Nordic fashion based on the original Stabur design- a work building commonly seen in Northern Europe. This design culminates a timeline of Scandinavian and Nordic design that the Miller’s began on the property next door that also honored northern work buildings in the roots of their designs. There is off street parking under a sod roofed carport. The property is currently under construction and will be ready for occupancy for the first lucky guests starting in June of 2018. Here is a brief tour of the property and the Sky House: Begin by driving right in to the heart of Grand Marais by the harbor. Turn left up the hill 1/2 block. Pull in to the parking area just outside of the lodging. Walk up to the entry area and pass under the nordic arch to the first of 3 decks where there is room to store bikes in summer, and once inside, plenty of room to shake off the snow, hang the coats and set down the skis or snowshoes. If you are the lucky person who gets bedroom one then head down David Salmela’s trademark stairway one half flight to bedroom one. On the way there is plenty of cabinetry, as well as a bathroom and your bedroom with built in cabinets, desk, and walk out to your own private dry stacked bluestone patio. The floors are heated. If you are the lucky inhabitant of bedroom two, head up from the entry to bedroom two for built in cabinets, bath number two, and your own wrap around balcony. Each bedroom is separated by a floor for maximum privacy. Continuing up the inspiring staircase leads you to the primary gathering area on the top floor. This area is breathtaking with its expansive windows, view of the town and harbor, Lake Superior and the private grounds. There is a fully modern and capable kitchen, an architect designed built in sofa and contemporary gas fireplace. The sofa can sleep one adult or two children, and there is also a matching floor mattress for one. Note the unique skylight with modern light treatments and the push button electronic pop up television that you can leave hidden if you wish. There is also a wrap around deck on this top level with fantastic view of the rooftops and harbor and the town. The entire home has slate floors and modern cabinets. There is a utility room with full size washer and dryer. Everything about the Sky House is designed with environmental sustainability in mind. These homes have an incredibly small footprint both structurally and environmentally. The foundations were designed to take up as little of the yard as possible- by being small at the start and increasing as you go up just like the old Stabur upon which this design is based. The energy efficiency is profound because these are composed of structurally insulated panels which are incredibly efficient. No cost has been spared to make the Sky House the highest quality, most significant architectural addition to Grand Marais’ beautiful landscape. We hope you will find it warm, welcoming, and a once in a lifetime experience in one of the world’s most magical places. 6 persons maximum, including children. Be sure to list children counts in the reservation form.
This is a perfectly located micro neighborhood close to everything. You are very near the action of town, but comfortably removed if you need a breather.

The Horizon is local couple Todd and Susan Miller’s newest addition to their exclusive list of vacation rental properties in the heart of Grand Marais near the harbor. Designed by celebrated Minnesota architect David Salmela to capture all the needs and dreams of a visitor to Grand Marias, we hope this will be the coolest lodging in America’s Coolest Small Town. By design the Horizon provides for all the needs of a vacationing party of up to 6 people in a 1264 Sq. Ft. home. In addition, the Horizon provides an inspiring modern space that allows for privacy among those sharing the lodging, and also provides a great room area on the top floor with breathtaking views of the Grand Marais harbor, the neighborhood, and the town close by. Here is a brief tour of the property and the Horizon: Begin by driving right in to the heart of Grand Marais by the harbor. Turn left up the hill 1/2 block. Pull in to the parking area just outside of the lodging. Walk past the amazing dry stack bluestone walls to the entry area and pass under the nordic arch to the front door. You will know you are at the Horizon by the red accents. Once inside there is plenty of room for the whole group to shake off the snow, hang the coats and set down the skis or snowshoes. To get to bedroom one head down David Salmela’s trademark stairway one half flight. On the way there is plenty of cabinetry, as well as a bathroom and the bedroom with built in cabinets, desk, and a walk out to your own private dry stacked bluestone patio. The floors are heated. To get to bedroom two, head up from the entry to bedroom two passed built in cabinets, bath number two, and bedroom 2's wrap around balcony. Each bedroom is separated by a soundproofed floor for maximum privacy. Continuing up the inspiring staircase leads you to the primary gathering area on the top floor. This area is bright and airy and has expansive windows, a remarkable view of the town and harbor, Lake Superior and the private grounds. There is a fully modern and capable kitchen, an architect designed built in sofa and contemporary gas fireplace. The sofa can sleep two individuals in single sleeper fashion. Note the unique skylight with modern light treatments and the push button electronic pop up television that you can leave hidden if you wish. There is also a wrap around deck on this top level with fantastic view of the rooftops and harbor and the town. The entire home has slate floors and modern cabinets. Clear grained Douglas fir ceiling are througout the entire home. There is a utility room with full size washer and dryer. Everything about the Horizon is designed with environmental sustainability in mind. No cost has been spared to make the Horizon the highest quality, most significant architectural addition to Grand Marais’ beautiful landscape. We hope you will find it warm, welcoming, and a once in a lifetime experience in one of the world’s most magical places. 6 persons maximum (including children- be sure to list them in the reservation).
This is the heart of old Grand Marais. We are situated very close to the harbor and we are enveloped in lake air- cool in the summer and slightly warmer in the winter. It is a magical setting where we are close to everything, but comfortably removed from the excitement of a small town when you need your personal space. The Horizon is part of a small collection of 3 vacation rentals. The SkyHouse, The Horizon, and Aurora. These three homes share private grounds and parking on a site that was in the same family for generations. We are only two lots from the harbor, not next to any noisy roads or highways, and the owners live very close by. You can drive in, park your car, set your keys on the counter and not need them again for the duration of your stay. Sea gulls greet you when you rise, and live music from festivals drifts on the air in the evenings of summer. The winter storms are in their full glory when viewed from the large windows of the 3rd floor in the highly energy efficient home.

Placed along the gorgeous Fall River, this A-frame cabin has a secluded wilderness feel, just two miles from Grand Marais. Take advantage of Grand Marais' renowned restaurants, shops, and shoreline or relax by your river-side campfire after a day of exploration or relaxation. Explore the rivers, and trails of this 25 acre wooded lot. Rest or catch up on a good book in the sun-filled and spacious interior, from a hammock between two birch trees, or on the large front deck surrounded by nature.
Our family loves hiking the north shore's rivers and always thought it would be great to have a cabin on one of those great rivers. Here it is! Even though the cabin is located only a mile from the shore of Lake Superior and 2.5 miles from Grand Marais, it maintains a truly North woods, off grid feel: a winding private gravel road heads up the hill from Lake Superior, crossing over a small creek, where you'll park at the trail head. From there you'll hike 400 yards (about a 5 minute walk) on a foot path to this charming cabin in the woods, perched along the bluff of the Fall River. A cart is available if you want it. The cabin has a well equipped kitchen with pots and pans, silverware, glassware, a propane stovetop, a double insulated cooler, and over 30 gallons of water for drinking, dishes, and cleaning. There is a cozy bedroom downstairs with a queen bed and up the spiral staircase is a window-filled loft with three twin beds. All beds will be supplied with pillows and bedding. There is a small solar powered system supporting the lighting for the bedroom, kitchen, and loft and a phone charger. The Sun-Mar compost toilet is environmentally friendly, convenient, and comfortable. The deck and included hammocks offer the opportunity to relax and bask in the 25 acre wood and listen to the river run. Some will enjoy splashing in the river, or swimming beneath the waterfall where the Fall River meets the lake. Some will use the supplied solar shower or buy a day-pass to the Grand Marais YMCA (around $10) to take advantage of the gym, workout facility, showers, hot tub, sauna, and pool. The newly constructed A-frame (2019-2020) is comfortable with many windows and a vaulted ceiling that offer abundant natural lighting and breezes. Kids and adults alike will enjoy walking along the bank or through the moving water of the larger Fall River, or racing sticks, and rock searching on the smaller creek. From the cabin, expect to see deer, squirrels, and birds ranging from songbirds to woodpeckers, grouse, ravens, and bald eagles. The woods are also home to less frequent visitors like black bear and moose. Coyote and timber-wolves can be heard howling nearby as well. Also keep an eye out for edible (and non-edible) mushrooms as well as wild raspberries. All of this, a short bike ride, run, or drive from the Lake Superior shoreline and Grand Marais!
Close to Lake Superior and Grand Marais, surrounded by 25 acres of mixed forests, Fall river, and babbling creek.

This is a special neighborhood within the oldest section of Grand Marais. This was a property that was in the same family for generations, and now it is newly developed by the celebrated Minnesota Nordic architect David Salmela from Duluth. Pull in, park your car in the protected carport with it's green roof, and leave your keys on the counter- you won't need them again unless you are voyaging up the Gunflint Trail or to some of the more distant attractions. We love living here, we live next door. The lake air surrounds the property and the seagulls fill the air with their cries when the fisherman bring in their catch. This is a true micro village in the harbor village of Grand Marais. Welcome to our neighborhood.

Enjoy the lush English garden, with a succession of blooms from June through October. If you are looking for a place that is unique and away from the hectic pace that life can sometimes demand, this is it. The cabin is nestled in a group of cabins that was once a mom and pop resort. Now individually owned there are only a few that are still rented to vacationers. This cabin is conveniently located only a few miles from Grand Marais and the head of the Gunflint Trail. Get up early and take your cup of coffee on the deck to watch the sunrise emerge from the lake. Then enjoy breakfast in the retro dining booth. Watch as the fog lifts off the lake and moves slowly across the land, covering everything with fingers of eerie dew. On clear nights lie on the deck and watch shooting stars overhead. The ceiling design recreates the themes of the Cree Indians and other native tribes. There is a riot of color, with geometric patterns and bands of bright red, yellow, blues and greens. Its inspiration comes directly from the Naniboujou Lodge, just 13 miles up Highway 61.The cabin is beautiful and warm when the sun is shining. It is still cozy and snug even when the autumn storms blow. French doors to the deck provide a view of the surf pounding on the ancient rocky ledges. The cabin is a mere thirty feet from the shore of the world’s largest freshwater lake. Due to the cabin's small size and close proximity to the water, it is not recommended for children.

    * Sauna available November-March. A new timber frame cabin 4 miles from Grand Marais, the perfect distance to feel like you are in the woods and still run to town whenever you choose. It is filled with windows to capture the amazing Lake Superior vistas plus a big skylight to stargaze and watch the northern lights. Grab your coffee and walk down to the pebble beach across the road or hang out on the big cedar deck and watch the waves crash on Five Mile Rock. Instagram/Face book @aguanortemn
*** Please read ALL info, specially 'Other Things to Notice' section. The cabin is located in a 10 acre parcel, nested in between evergreen trees and gorgeous Lake Superior. The property is full of wild life, birds, butterflies, wild flowers and wild berries. It is the perfect spot for a couple looking for a romantic and peaceful getaway, or a single person in search of quietude. The 16'x20' cabin was built in 2014. The white pine timbers that compose the frame were locally and sustainably logged, sawed and treated by us, the owners. It has 8 huge windows and a cathedral ceiling, making this tiny home very airy, elegant and modern. The open loft has a huge skylight for stargaze and it can be accessed by a ships ladder. It has been designed with 2 people in mind, and although we don't encourage more than two, it can accommodate a party of 4 in a very cozy way. The kitchen has full size appliances, doug fir cabinets, blue quartz countertop and a black walnut bar top with two bar stools. It is a beautiful place to cook your meals and enjoy the lake view. It has a fridge and freezer, 4 burner electric stove with oven, coffee maker, blender and all needed cooking and baking utensils. There is a TV and DVD player on the loft, and a TV with an Apple TV in the living room. Please bring your own credentials to access channels on Apple TV. The bathroom is truly spa like: beautiful, spacious and airy. It has cedar wood paneling, beach pebble shower floor, a white vessel sink and two closets. A washer and dryer set are also located in the bathroom and available for guests to use. Please do read all instructions before using it. Outside, the fire pit overlooks Lake Superior and the vegetable garden, and it is conveniently located by the picnic table. It is the perfect spot for an evening bonfire. The garden is located about 10 yards west of the cabin and you are welcome to pick veggies for your dinner. The watering hose is connected to the outside of the north wall of the cabin and we will access it whenever we are working the garden (If you enjoy gardening and would like to take care of it, by all means! Just let us know ;) Oh, and keep an eye out for all the bald eagles! The big tall spruce tree on the edge of the cliff overlooking the lake is the hangout area for these beautiful birds. It is basically guaranteed that you will see one or a couple hanging out on the three and being harassed by crows and seagulls.
The timber frame cabin is located only 4 miles East of Grand Marais (towards Canada). It is the perfect distance to have the 'in the woods' feeling, and still run to town when you choose. The very private 10 acre property is surrounded by evergreen trees on 3 sides, and Lake Superior on its south side.
Diesen Ort muss man unbedingt selbst erleben!

  • Perfekte Unterkunft in Grand Marais.

The 'North Shore Fisherman's Cabin' is a restored historic commercial fisherman's home built of logs around 1900. You are right in the heart of town within a block of everything- yet comfortably removed when you need a breather. We are less than 100 yards from the water. There are 3 well appointed bedrooms, 2 full baths, a huge dining room, a roomy pine living room with gas woodstove fireplace, a front cedar porch, and a natural slate patio. The original log home with it's well appointed kitchen and huge dining room is the core of the structure. The logs for the Cabin were hand hewn a century ago and show the broad ax marks from the original fisherman builders. The kitchen is thoroughly modern with stainless appliances, solid maple counter tops, and a two level snack bar. The property was completely renovated down to it's bones from 2003 to 2007, using recycled or repurposed materials wherever possible and is now a highly energy efficient home. The walls are adorned with local art and mementos of the great age of commercial fishing and logging here in Grand Marias. Many of our guests ache for a connection with nature (with high thread count sheets), reconnection with each other, and permission to come to a full stop for deep rest. No one says this out loud, but we think that’s their intrinsic motivation. The view of the old harbor from the living room and the deck is stunning. There is also a view from the 3rd bedroom deck. Seagulls and fog greet you when you rise. The grounds of the property are planted with a variety of native and boreal flowering plants, flowering shrubs and fruit trees. It is a garden like setting with various perennial, annual, and produce plantings. The waxwings regularly invade the ash trees, along with fiercly dueling ruby throated hummingbirds. Visitors are encouraged to tour the property and observe the goings on in the gardens and the adjacent Boathouse! The Boathouse is an impressive timberframe structure that was built by the current owner as a workshop for building and restoring boats and for teaching classes and other public and private events. Stop in and see what's going on, maybe you will be recruited in to service to help on whatever project is under way! Please, no parties or large gatherings with non guests. We love dogs. Single dogs are allowed if under 40 lbs with a $30 pet fee, they must be clean and house trained and must not be left unnatended and always kept on leash when outside. No dogs under 1 year old. If you have any questions please call to discuss your pets before booking. Any dogs larger than 40 lbs, and any dogs more than one must be approved by the owners. The base rate includes 6 people. For a video of the property go to https://youtu.be/SCYxqpIyEFA Please give us a call if you have any questions. If you wish to enjoy the The Finnish Sauna house, it is available for the duration of your stay for a one time fee of $49. Robes, extra towels and instructions will be provided. Thank you! Todd and Susan Miller
This is a great little pocket neighborhood in old Grand Marais right near the harbor and very easy walking distance to all attractions.

Stay at the "Fur Trader", part of the all new Mayhew Inn. The only Boutique Hotel in Grand Marais. The Fur Trader is cozy, and romantic, warm and classic. Right on Main St, in the heart of downtown. The best views of the Harbor in all of downtown are from the private rooftop of The Mayhew Inn.
The 6 units that make up The Mayhew Inn are individually, uniquely designed. Add to that, common spaces that can be shared with larger groups, or experienced alone. A common Lobby space with a fireplace, turntables with records, the Dragon Lounge that faces the new outdoor fireplace and pizza oven with sliding windows and an outdoor bar can all be experience outside of your own rental space....as well as rooftop decks with the best harbor views in town!! Gas and charcoal grills to enjoy and dine in our outdoor spaces. Also, you will be able to book the entire property for weddings, or any other events! With its incomparable view of the Harbor, Sailboats, Lighthouse and Coast Guard Station. The view is what it is all about! This room is priced below our other comparable rooms at The Mayhew Inn because there is a large unit on the 2nd floor above it, and when there is a large group sometimes there are sound transfer issues (footsteps and walking). So if you like to turn in extra early or sleep in, you may want to steer towards The Plaid Cabin or The Rococo Room. This unit is dog friendly but we require a conversation about your dog, breed, age etc... prior to booking. 1 dog is allowed in this unit. There is a 1 time $30 dog cleaning fee that is required. Fur Trader is on the main level of The Mayhew property, has a Twin over Queen bunk, and has amazing views of the Harbor from the rooftop deck. It has a warm cozy vibe, and harkens back to the days and designs of the French Fur Traders. Fur Trader is right in the heart of downtown Grand Marais on beautiful Harbor Park. It's Fur Trader design is warm and nostalgic. It is a great home-base for enjoying the gentle activity of the Village or easily getting away for day trips to the BWCA. Drive up the Gunflint Trail for day adventures and hikes, but stay at The Storefront to experience all that downtown has to footsteps out the front door. Even though The Mayhew Inn is right downtown on the harbor front, it is graced with a gorgeous secluded backyard courtyard areas, rooftop decks with breathtaking views with fabulous restaurants and shops all within walking distance. Your own private campfires in the backyard at night, and watch the stars to wind down your evening. In the evening, step next door to the Gunflint Tavern and enjoy a microbrew or Mojito in the 'Ravens Nest' lake-view deck and then listen to world class music in the early evening. The music at 'The Tavern' ranges from gentle Gypsy Jazz to Folk and Folk Rock for the occasional night of dancing. Keep in mind you are "downtown" Grand Marais, so there is the activity of being around the shopping, the activity of the tourists, and a little bit of the nightlife. But that's part of the fun. Fortunately that all ends pretty early in Grand Marais as everything pretty much shuts down around 10:00 pm. Wake with the gulls in the morning sun and enjoy the quiet solitude of downtown as it gently comes to life. Stroll to the Crooked Spoon Restaurant, Angry Trout Cafe, Harbor House Restaurant, Voyageur Brewing Taproom and grab breakfast at the Blue Water Cafe for breakfast. All short walks. You have it ALL at The Fur Trader! The thing to remember about The Mayhew Inn is that every day is a beautiful magical day whether it is sunny and warm or stormy and wild; all year round nature's magic unfolds right in front of you over the greatest of lakes, Lake Superior! Come share the Magic!

The thing to remember about The Mayhew Inn is that every day is a beautiful magical day whether it is sunny and warm or stormy and wild; all year round nature's magic unfolds right in front of you over the greatest of lakes, Lake Superior! A little History about The Storefront & Artist Loft: It was built in the early 1900s by Chet Boisvert. Chet was the village barber and the shop was equipped with showers for the lumberjacks to come in from the woods for a hot shower. He was also an avid Democrat and held party meetings at the Loft on Main Street. In the guest book it was found that his grandchildren had stayed here and left an entry in the guestbook telling of heartwarming memories such as... - ' The last time I slept in this bedroom was 43 years ago. I can still remember hearing my people cheering at 6 am when they announced the Victory of Harry Truman over Dewey in 1948!' - 'I remember watching, from the front windows, pulp boats loading logs from the thousands of logs floating in the harbor' You can still feel those memories as you gaze out the windows and still see fishing boats and sailboats bobbing in the breezes. Come share the Magic!
