Spacious rooms in magnificent listed Georgian mansion - one of the most beautiful and oldest houses in Torquay. With up-to 5 rooms available it's ideal for families and groups of friends. Every room is large and bright. There's plenty of parking along with the peace and quiet of a secluded, totally private location.
On the 2nd floor are three double bedrooms, a huge sitting/dining room (with sofa bed), a shower room and a snug with microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. On the floor below there is a spectacular double with private modern shower/wet room and access to a shared bathroom. With sea views from both of the double bedrooms and the sitting room on the second floor, we think you'll find these one of the nicest AirBnBs you'll have stayed in. If you choose to book the 3 rooms on the 2nd floor then you will have exclusive use of the shower room, snug (with microwave, fridge kettle and toaster) and massive sitting room; it's basically a three bedroomed apartment accessed through the main house. If you are booking for 9 or 10 people please be aware that one/two of these will need to use the sofa bed in the 2nd floor sitting room (or we can add a single bed to one of the double bedrooms).
Ideally situated for the Riviera International Centre, International Agatha Christie Festival, Torquay beach, the Princess theatre and Torquay station - all are a short walk away. The Chelston part of Torquay is a leafy suburb with lots of fine Victorian villas and the seafront is but a 10 minute walk. The award winning Cockington Court and historic Torre Abbey are both within easy walking distance.

Recently featured on ‘The Culture Trip’ blog as one of the ‘TOP TEN FAIRYTALE CASTLES’ to stay in on Airbnb! Check out the Culture Trip website to read their amazing review on our home. Our home is a stunning section of a Victorian mansion house. With huge entertaining spaces and magnificent views out to sea. Enjoy time in luxurious surroundings in a beautiful part of the country. contact me for special deals as prices change depending on the time of the year. High season exceptions apply.
PLEASE NOTE: WE DO NOT ACCEPT 2 NIGHT BOOKINGS DURING HIGH SEASON, FROM JULY-SEPTEMBER. Totally unique 3 storey section of grand mansion with large enclosed gardens Lots of original features Open fire in the sitting room 2 large flat screen TVs bedrooms spread over three floors for extra privacy ideal for families and couples off road parking spaces lots of local activities: golf courses, fishing, walking, seaside activities etc. AMAZING views Famous former residents; Vivien Leigh & Laurence Olivier. recently renovated with new heating system & roof. Decorated for Christmas Large garden Views Full use of section of house Original roll top bath Close to the sea and Dartmoor Quaint English seaside town Lots of excellent restaurants Traditional pubs Easy access to Exeter and Plymouth Excellent public transport; we have a mainline railway station less than 1/2 mile down the road and there are also excellent bus links. Passenger ferry across to the fishing village of Shaldon (the oldest ferry route in the British Isles). MINIMUM OF 3 NIGHT STAY. All damage must be paid for. Any extra cleaning charges will also be taken from deposit. Double doors lead out to a fenced off area of a large garden. Lots of local shops in Teignmouth town along with pubs and restaurants and takeaways. There is a Waitrose supermarket in town and about 1 mile away is a Morrisons supermarket. Mainline train station is a five minute walk away from the property and there are lots of different bus routes from town that take you to Exeter, Plymouth and Dartmoor. The previous owners of this house had massively neglected it and let it fall into a terrible state of disrepair - it was pretty much derelict when we bought it. It had no staircase, water, electricity or gas supply. The roof let in approximately 40 litres of water every time it rained and the windows were all rotten. Over the last 9 years we have lovingly restored it - replaced the rotten windows; had a new roof (and insulation!) fitted, a new heating system has been installed and we have tastefully decorated with colours representative of the era it was built. We've given the house a little bit of dignity back. It's an on going project though so please take into consideration it's not a modern, double glazed property and you might feel a draught here and there!
We're a five minute walk from the beach and the town centre; as we're located on the top of a hill, we have the most magnificent views out to sea, estuary and the moors. It's an idyllic location and a beautiful house.

Gaze over the amazing sea view or stroll down a 15 minute walk down to the red sandy beach. Relax in the pool / spa before dining on the balcony under the stars. Explore the Moors, hire a jetski, cycle or walk in the Pine Forest at Haldon. Relax, in Teignmouth, "The Gem of South Devon"
It's a much larger than average comfortable, clean space. Two bedroom, two bathroom, kitchen, spacious suntrap balcony with sea views, a patio, BBQ area.... Then relax and unwind in the sole use pool or hot tub area with gym equipment.

Due to Covid-19, to support only essential travel, the NHS and limit spread of the virus, I am taking no bookings up to the end of May. This may extend. Unique & beautiful BackBeach; Fisherman's cottage, self-contained, ground-floor. Stunning sunsets & moonlit waters up the River Teign to Dartmoor. Enjoy river, harbour & beach life, winter storm watching. Steps 2 eateries, Shaldon Ferry, Arts Quarter. Town Center a few mins walk.
Lots to do, but also a perfect place to do nothing here on the Back Beach in Teignmouth, my home town. More tranquil in the winter, and especially cosy with the wood-burner on winter nights. Great space to stay all year round, with books and games, TV, wifi. The picture window faces the beach and up the River Teign to Dartmoor with Haytor Rock on the horizon. For walkers, the Templar Way passes just outside - an 18 mile hike to Haytor. For artists and photographers the light and coastal/rural scenery from the house is gorgeous. River activity to watch from the house includes: harbour seal; swans/sea birds, cargo ships, rowers and amazing sunsets. The house has a 'Trot' a mooring for a small boat which you are free to use for your own boat. If planning to use the trot can you let me know at least 48 hours in advance. Perfect for visiting Exeter, or Dartmoor for a walk and a pub lunch. More tranquil in the autumn and winter months, but still plenty to do - local shops; Arts Quarter; pubs, restaurants; live music events; Pavilions Community Arts centre. The seawall and the front beach are great for storm watching, and surfers. You may also spot a fox on the cliff embankment, dolphins out at sea, and a bird of prey high above the cliff near the TEIGNMOUTH sign. Two car parks 2-3 minutes walk from my place. It can get busy so I now provide Free designated parking, a 3-minute drive (and a 5-minute straight walk back to my place) on the forecourt of a residential building. One of my favourite times of day: After the crowds have gone home (on a sunny day) looking out of my window, at the River Teign, with the lights of Shaldon Bridge on calm waters, and Venus rising in the night sky. Good for the heart. Kitchen provisions: tea, hot chocolate, 'real' and instant coffee, milk, marmite, local honey, jams, oats, homemade muesli; vinegars, olive oil, herbs, spices. And a Devon cream tea with scones from a local award winning bakery!
The back beach neighbourhood is unique. This is the River Teign beach area of Teignmouth, this small coastal town in Devon in the South West of England. There is a fishing community and a working quay close by and always something going. You will be in the heart of this friendly community. Festivals and events in throughout the year e.g. summer: Carnival week; regatta week; Ship Inn music August Bank Holidays and selected other dates. Winter includes Jazz festival November. At any time of the year the restaurants might be fully booked. During the winter months they may be open 3-4 days per week - if you want to eat in one of them book beforehand. Pubs serve pub food with no need to book e.g. the Ship Inn 2 doors down facing the river, with tables inside and outside; also the Crab Shack restaurant next door but one is popular, with tables inside and outside.
  • Einfach wunderbar!

Nochmals vielen Dank Anne.

  • Tolle Lage, nette Gastgeber!

My place is close to Teignmouth beach, pier, many lovely shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants & diving centre. You’ll love my place because of the cosy, relaxing feel and proximity to the beach & to the famed Crab Shack eaterie & the best fish & chip shop in town. You can easily travel to Torquay & Exeter by car or train; the station is a 6 minute walk away. There are 2 double bedrooms & a modern downstairs bathroom, small kitchen & pretty outdoor space with potted plants.Alas no free parking.
Tucked away in a quiet lane a few minutes walk from the main thoroughfare & shops (No direct vehicular access)
The house is in the Artists Quarter of Teignmouth.

A fantastic self contained one bedroom apartment, a stones throw from the beach and all the amenities, pubs and restaurants that beautiful Shaldon has to offer. Situated at the heart of the village, this property provides lovely living, dining and sleeping space with a well apointed bijou bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. A wonderful location in which to enjoy the coast and stunning countryside all year round with a log burner in the lounge providing for a cosy, romantic winter hideaway.
The property is accessed via an external stone staircase which leads to a modern stable style front door from which you enter the property into the kitchen. The kitchen features a fridge, oven and plenty of storage and is well equipped for eager cooks. The comfortable and pretty double bedroom has hanging space as well as a small wardrobe with drawers ensuring plenty of space to unpack. The bedroom has space to accommodate a travel cot (not provided). The lounge features a log burning stove for cooler evenings (wood provided during winter months), cosy sofas and a dining table and chairs. Wifi, digital TV with catch-up smart box plus a DVD player are all provided, as is a collection of DVDs. The newly fitted bathroom although small is perfectly appointed and features a small bath tub with a powerful shower overhead. The beach loft is well equipped with beach equipment including a picnic hamper/cool bag, windbreak and beach blankets as well as maps and books featuring local walks. The bookcase in the hallway contains books and games for guest use. Up to date local information, recommendations for places to eat and guidance on parking along with other hints and tips are all provided by the host via email in advance.
The beach in shaldon is a great place for a sunny day. The village has a great range of food and drink venues, many of which feature live music. Further up the road on the headland you will find another beach which is accessed through a smugglers tunnel! Just go past the ness pub and past the small Zoo to find the tunnel. The coastal path can be picked up from Shaldon by the Zoo – it is a beautiful scenic path but it is very steep in places. Teignmouth has all your typical English seaside resort activities and amusements and there is a walk along the sea wall with the trains running by on one side and the sea on the other. Dartmoor is only 30/45 minutes away. The cream teas at Badgers Holt tea rooms at Dart Meet are to die for – and huge!

Sunnybrook is unique. A family-sized country retreat in its own grounds, situated at the end of a rural lane and only 5 mins from a beach. A beautifully designed eco house providing comfort and convenience including a new wood fired Swedish hot tub. You’ll enjoy under-floor heating, a well-appointed kitchen and home entertainment system. As you explore the half-acre garden, you’ll feel you are in deepest Devon - yet you’re only a five minute drive (or 20 minute walk) from Shaldon village.
The house, attractively clad in UK grown cedar, is designed for every kind of holiday. The living area is welcoming, open and spacious, with large-screen television, home entertainment system, books and games. Doors open from three different sides onto a granite terrace that surrounds the entire side and rear of the property. From here you can watch the children play in the garden, or entertain family and friends beneath a covered open area with sink and other utilities. If you prefer a more active holiday, this provides ample space to store kayaks, bikes, and sports gear. There is parking for four cars – and a boat. The kitchen appliances are state of the art, from an integrated filtered water tap to the induction hob with down draught extraction system. The ovens are top of the range Neff appliances. One is an integrated Combi Oven, Grill and Microwave and the other a combi oven with hide and slide door. Each bedroom has a French door that opens onto the covered veranda and garden area. The larger super king room can also be configured into two single beds. The second bedroom has a king size bed. The bathroom is unique and is accessed from the hall way between both bedrooms. It has silent heat recovery ventilation with an integrated dual sink, a separate shower and double ended steel bath. There is also an additional toilet at the end of the hallway. A high chair and travel cot can be made available upon request. There is plenty of parking for at least 4 cars. The garden has a (fenced off) brook running along its edge, creating a gentle, calming soundtrack to the idyllic countryside setting. Not overlooked by any houses, you will feel that you are in deepest Devon - yet only a few minutes drive from the coast, pubs and civilisation! To enhance the natural habitat, fruit bearing hedging and fruit trees have been planted to create a small orchard of apple, pear and plum trees at the bottom of the garden.
Sunnybrook is located in Shaldon, one of the most sought after areas of South Devon, which is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, next to the Teign Estuary, and only 20 minutes to Dartmoor, Exeter and Torbay. Because of the nature of the location and recent renovations, Shaldon is now often referred to as the new Salcombe. Shaldon’s History There is little to doubt that a settlement existed between the Ness and Ringmore as long ago as the Domesday Book. Shaldon itself was mentioned in Chancery proceedings during the reign of King James 1. The original settlement was in Ringmore- the beautiful and sheltered valley, the Saxons built a wooden Church, not the stone built St Nicholas, and the Celtic name of Ringmore means ‘ a great enclosure or clearing’. Silt has washed down the Estuary over the centuries, causing the river flow to slow down and the estuary to widen, to land has been reclaimed over time, and most of Shaldon has been built on reclaimed land. In the 1800s a retaining wall was built to prevent the water from returning to the silted areas. Early man would have farmed and fished, and later sailed to far away places. Local names provide clues such as nearby Labrador Bay..along the coast. Trade grew, and shipbuilders plied their trade in Ringmore & Shaldon. The deep-water channel was originally on the Shaldon side, and a flourishing Port was established. When the Shaldon side channel silted up, the channel deepened at Teignmouth, and trade was re established in Teignmouth Docks. It is no mean feat to bring in the large container ships used today over the shifting sands of the bar, to reach the port. The narrow channel is still 30m or so deep, even at low water. Shipbuilding was very important to village life in Shaldon, there were several early shipyards –Ringmore had two. One located in the area of the King George playing fields and the other above Ringmore Towers-adjacent to the little area jutting into the water, where benches, trees and the sundial are located. Part of the fleet of ships used in the Napoleonic wars was built here. River Teign was also busy with with barge traffic, from both the Clay pits at Newton Abbot and the granite quarries at Haytor. Some Haytor granite is in the British Museum and the National gallery. Before 1827, the only way across the river to Shaldon was fording at low tide, or a long journey around through Newton Abbot. The first bridge linking Teignmouth and Shaldon was a wooden one in 1827, and at that time was the longest wooden bridge in England. Part collapsed in 1838 after an attack of woodworm !. The structure was changed in 1931 to allow a portion to open, and was last updated and strengthened in the last 10 years. Many parts of Shaldon and Ringmore are conservation areas, with listed buildings from the seventeenth and even some from the fifteenth century. Today Shaldon welcomes holiday makers as part of its daily commerce, whilst still retaining its fishing heritage, boat trips and cottage industries thrive, and the village is lucky enough to have a full range of shops, pubs and restaurants. A complete transition from the Schooner and men-of-war building to a pleasure and fishing centre-now accessed by excellent transport links by both road and rail. Things To Do There are a wealth of attractions, sights, shopping, entertainment & many more activities in and around Shaldon to suit the whole family. fresh escapes will provide a detailed guest manual that will detail all the things to do during your stay.

- alles, was man so braucht.

  • Einfaches Einchecken, freundliche Gastgeber.
