This charming little town with the new CIA restaurant and fabulous harbor scenes is a boating paradise and where I first stayed on my UP adventures. The West entrance ( of three ) served as the inside route for Indians, the French trappers, then Brits post French and Indian War 1756-63 for furs coming from the western Great Lakes to market at Mackinac Isl.

The miners lost, broken by thug strike breakers imported by the mine owners. The Italian House fire killing dozens of miner children pre Christmas, thought to be set by the thugs. Tour a mine. See Houghton and Hancock on the river.
