Avila is a great medieval town. It is surrounded by a Game of Throne's-like wall. The historical town itself is great to walk through. It has great restaurants and shops. You can walk on the city walls to enjoy a special view of town and beyond. The drive there is very nice too. It takes you through the highlands, where you will have some great vistas. Its about 1 hour drive.

Belchite
This is a fascinating place. Its a bit of a drive from Madrid, but if you are up for something different, check out this abandoned town which was destroyed during the Spanish Civil war and has remained a monument to it.

A beautiful 1 hour drive through the mountains gets you here. Gorgeous old town with a fabulous, impressive aquaduct, a marvelous catherdral and a castle. On a hill, wonderful walking, great views, yum food. Highly recomended, highligh in he region!
