Sightseeing

There's a lot to do in Wells. There is a magnificent cathedral, bishops palace, great parks and frequent events. Lots of lovely, independent shops, cafes (one of our favourite is the Good Earth) and restaurants. Markets on a Wednesday and Saturday. Vicar's Close is also a must see next to the cathedral.

Cheddar Gorge, an area of outstanding natural beauty is a great walk (2 hours) or cycle from the Hayloft. There is also a direct bus route to and from the Hayloft drive. Cheddar, home of cheddar cheese has an eclectic range of shops, tea shops, pubs and restaurants. La Rocca, the new Italian is very good. You can purchase explorer tickets to visit the caves, nature reserve and open top bus tours.

Head up Glastonbury Tor for spectacular views across the Somerset levels (free access to the public at all times). Read up on myths and legends of this unique place. Lovely town centre, full of magical shops, cafe, pubs and crystals. Lots of regular events, my favourite is Glastonbury Abbey Festival.

Food scene

Somerset's quirky cider barn is a great place to experience the Somerset hospitality, Somerset tapas and friendly atmosphere. Usually live music on Sunday afternoons. They do a marvellous ploughman's! This is a lovely scenic walk from the Hayloft (50 minutes), or you can take the bus or a 5 minute drive.
