Located at 20 minutes drive from my location, this lighthouse was constructed in 1882 in order to guide passing ships through the southeast entrance from the Caribbean Sea through the treacherous Mona Passage into the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse is located over a white lime cliff which is surrounded by salt water lagoons and marshes. The cliffs surrounding the lighthouse drop over 200 feet into the ocean.

Besides swimming, it includes snorkeling, fishing, diving, paddle surfing, and jet ski rentals. There are also picnic areas, gazebos for rent, gift shops with crafts, showers, and locker rooms.

Bright red limestone clifts surround the Natural Bridge, a beach cove suitable for a pirate, where the sunset light creates a dramatic scene like nowhere else on the island. The flora is lush and dry, making the scene mysterious and giving it a feeling of being far away.
