Big Buddha is set majestically on a small rocky island off Koh Samui's most north-eastern point. Known locally as Wat Phra Yao. As its name indicates, it is home to a giant, 12-metre high golden Buddha statue. Since being built in 1972, it has become one of Ko Samui's main tourist attractions and a major landmark. The Buddha statue depicts Buddha in a state of calm and purity and resolve, having overcome temptation and fear sent at him by Mara , Lord of Illusion.

There are 2 Namuang waterfalls in Koh Samui. Muang in Thai means purple and is named so because of the purple rocks that form the falls.
Namuang Waterfall 1 is a beautiful 18m high waterfall and easily accessible by a short walk into the jungle from the parking area nearby, making it a great place to stop off for a quick photo. There is a lovely pool formed at the foot of the waterfall where you will find tourists and locals alike jumping off rocks and taking a dip to cool off.

The Koh tan cuisine is a Thai family run restaurant situated in the lovely little fishing village of Thong Krut. Very good food. A boat tour is also run from here which is recommended. The owner is friendly and we are often told adds additional character to the place. Service can be slow sometimes, but its a wonderful place to sit, enjoy and wait! Thong Krut is an attractive fishing village. Just a 10 min quiet drive from the villa.

This lovely eatery is a slow 15 minute walk along the beach from Coco's Bar(Stolland Resort at Laem Sur) in the opposite direction from the temple on the beach.

The Restaurant is located at Lipa Noi beach on the west side of Koh Samui. There are tables on the beach, very nicely presented with table cloths and candles. Long tail boat rides are available out to the islands from a small harbour belonging to the restaurant. Beautiful in the daytime and very romantic setting for dinner. Lovely part of the beach, picturesque and with amazing sunsets.

Mummified Monk at Wat Khunaram offers a unique sight into Buddhist and Thai culture. On display in an upright glass casket and surrounded by flowers, candles, incense sticks and fruit offerings is the body of Koh Samui’s most famous monk, Loung Pordaeng.
For some Westerners this might be an uncomfortable or even disturbing sight. For Thai people the body of the monk is there to be worshiped and death is seen as an opportunity to be reborn in a next and better life.

There are pleasant small gardens to walk around for half hour, nice small waterfall and stone statues either side, which represents people in many poses and animals. There is a little river that runs through the gardens. Currently an 80 baht entrance fee. Cool and relaxing, and nature at its best.
