If we eat out--where we go!

One of Tucson's distinct breakfast dive shops. We tend to make our own eggs at home, but if we farmed that self reliant initiative out, we'd head to Frank's / Francisco's. Their motto is memorable: "Elegant dining elswhere."
Mi Nidito is our favorite Mexican Restaurant. The food and service is absolutely consistent. The value is memorable.

The Miss Saigon Campbell Ave. location (corner of Speedway and Campbell) is always packed with UofA International Students hungry for home flavors. We don't eat out often but when we do our default setting is always Miss Saigon's Vietnamese soup!

Very low key. Fresh grinds. Good to not arrive right on top of a stereotypical meal time :) Go early..., say 11 AM--worked for me.

OK, when it comes to French Scrambled Eggs, Simonne and I can hold our own, although Simonne loves to boast her French Scramble is better than mine. Well, she's right :) And if we weren't egg making devotees, we'd definitely get our eggs at Frank's and Francisco's. Why? Because F. and F. has one of those cheap, mobile, "arrow-pointing," illuminated bulb signs that gloats, "Elegant Dining Elsewhere!" We assume any maker of omelets, that honest, must have something worth cracking eggs over and about. Go with our blessing!

So when my buddy John and I meet up for breakfast, he steers his copious Lexus, and us, toward The Hungry Fox. Be fore-warned, if you order two eggs, you'll get be getting five! Portions are mammoth. Eat what you can; ask for a doggie bag, and make yourself a cold egg, dino-kale and pickles sandwich for lunch! French mustard, too, for a kick! :)

Thanks to Simonne's privilege, by birth, of having an EU Passport, we've filled our faces with many very fine breads across the Continent. Well, Time Market's "Bags," Pain Levain, and Pain Levain w/ walnuts, hold their own, against any artisan bread from the Continent. Time Market menu items are totally worth it, too. And in terms of western American aesthetics, Time Market's early 20th century, unfinished, minimalist architecture and interior are worth experiencing first hand. Time Market is on our "Top 3 List" when it comes to eating out.

Looking for a Sports Bar existential groove? Trident Grill is your gastronomic goal! Selected ingredients are nutrition and climate conscious, grass-fed, American-grown, and fussed over. While I've never ordered from the bar, one of our guests from the City of the Big Shoulders told us he claimed a stool at Trident's copious bar on a Sunday afternoon and never felt any vibe but total welcome and hospitality even though his singular purchase was that of an Ice Tea with lemon.

While we know absolutely "zilch" about the art of authentic coffee roasting, we can attest Exo Roast surpasses anything you would consume at any chain coffee house. Exo has its historic place between our zany 4th Ave. shopping district, the railroad tracks, and downtown Tucson-land. The building is historic, and the customer experience always is, too. Some of our Chicago-based guests have asserted there nothing in their leviathan town to rival Exo for original coffee drinking experience :)

My buddy John and my favorite coffee "hang." A warm, intimate, quiet space, populated with coffee-snobby, bookish and lap-top-ish students...and John and me. A latte is simply a latte. A brew is simply a brew. The ingredients are both carefully selected and carefully prepared. This place is the stuff of Old World coffee klatch experience. Has a really nice coffee garden adjacent to the property :) That's where John and I usually sit; see you there!

Our markets...

Places we do our grocery shopping...
You can walk it if you are so abled. Close our driveway gate behind you; head due West on East Elida Street, into the setting sun; in 20-ish steps, turn left, on N. Jones Blvd.; walk seven blocks due South and you'll come right to WholeFoods Market. There is a signal-light enabled, cross-walk zone on E. Speedway Blvd., midway between WholeFoods Market and Bookmans. This WholeFoods is where we buy many of our fruits and veggies :)

So, while the nearest Sprouts Farmers Market is 2 miles due East of our guest space, on East Speedway Blvd. (4645 East Speedway Blvd.), I tend to shop the Sprouts due North of our guest space (4282 N. 1st Avenue), on N. 1st Ave., between East Limberlost Dr. and East Wetmore Rd.. For whatever supply line reason, I seem to find fresher, more abundant veggies and fruits at this latter N. 1st Ave. location. Maybe I've become a veggie-snob, given that our diet is pretty vegetable driven. At either location, you will find gobs of produce and meats, wines and beers, dairy, eggs, desserts, and coffees. Sprouts is also a great place to fill up your one or five gallon water bottle(s), if you pack water that way. Relatively speaking, if you are looking for fresh meats, fresh veggies, fresh fruits, and a big bulk products section, Sprouts is worth it, whichever location you choose for you!

We love Trader Joe's. Maybe its the steam-punk icons on their brown-paper bags (I love the flying, beardy-man, with the propeller whirling above his heinie). We use both the central TJ location on N. Swan Rd. / East Grant Road (4766 East Grant Rd.) and the TJ location on N. Campbell Ave. (4209 N. Campbell Ave.) near Rillito River Park (between E. Limberlost Dr. and Rillito River). Easy to park at the N. Campbell Blvd. TJ, take a walk on or cycle on The Loop, and then shop TJ before you return to Breakfast At The Old West Adobe for supper :)
