Sightseeing

Regardless of your faith, if you have to visit one church in Rome, that'll be St. Peters. Not only for its baroque beauty, but also for the immense treasures and works of art contained in it. Look up the Michelangelo, The Pity, and you'll understand what I'm talking about. And if you're in for a great view, climb up the Cuppolone, the dome.

The Vatican Museums preserve 2000 years of history. Across its corridors, you'll see anything ranging from ancient Roman sculptures to the most refined religious art. Oh, forgot to say you also get to see the Sistine Chapel...

Ok, we're still getting over the idea that Francesco Totti will not be playing for AS Roma anymore, but - if you like the atmosphere of a raucous and inflamed stadium - it's worth dropping by on match day to watch the gladiators in action.

Once you've climbed up the steps, you'll know why you wanted to go through all that suffering :)

Neighborhoods

Enjoy a night out in the busy Trastevere neighborhood. You can treat yourself for drinks or go to one of Rome's traditional hostarias. My favorite? Da Olindo.

Downtown Rome, history and all the rest. I suggest you take a stroll from Piazza del Popolo, a 10 minute walk from our home, all the way to Piazza Venezia, with stop overs at the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. And if you still have it in you, continue your walk all the way to the Colisseum. The Metro will take you back home ;)

A two minute walk from our flat for one the traditional crispy, served on metal plate Roman pizzas. If you want a starter, go for the fried Suppli, Fiori di Zucca and Filetto di Baccala - respectively a fried rice ball, zucchini flowers with mozzarella and anchovies and cod fish.

Strongly suggested for both your breakfast and aperitif. Homemade pasties and delicacies to accompany a good Processo. Either way, you'll enjoy one of the best pasticcerie in the neighborhood.

Chef Gabriele Bonci is making a name for his pinsa - take away pizza the Roman way. He pushes the boundaries of what you never thought could end up on a pizza.
