The Salinas here have produced natural rock salt since 1100 and still do today. Worth a visit and a good place for lunch is the Churrasqueria Solar do Sal which you book when you turn up but has queues at the weekends. Cheap fancy looking salt is a good gift to take home!

Lisbon is only an hour drive away and is safe and easy to drive around and has lots of parking at reasonable prices.
In Lisbon our highlights so far are the 28 Tram, an eco tuktuk tour, the “Best chocolate cake in the world” shop (“O Melhor Bolo de Chocolate en el Mundo), the Campo Ourique Food Market, the Time Out Food Market, the Aquarium and nearby cable car, the Castillo S George, Principe Real Neighbourhood and the nearby “Gin Lovers” in an old Palazzo. There is lots to do in Lisbon, great places to eat and nice independent stores.

Nazare beach, site of the largest wave ever surfed on Big Sunday (look it up on youtube), is a nice beach town with an old funicular railway up the hill.
Can easily be combined with a trip to Alcobaca.

oz beach and lagoon are really fun – on the lagoon if you turn left at the roundabout before you go to the beach there is a place that rents sailing boats and windsurfers.
Viewpoint above Foz – we love watching the sun set from the boardwalk above Foz – if you take a right at the roundabout on the way to the beach and follow that road up to another roundabout there is a little car park the 3rd exit from that roundabout. There is a long boardwalk there with benches and seats and a chilled bottle of wine in the coolbox is all you need!
