If you're at all interested in modern history this place is a must, full of information. A good place to take children too as each "hut" is staged as something different. Shops, theatre, the underground, submarine etc so they can pick and choose which ones they go in. So much to see difficult to do all in one day! Some of the prisoners (Italians and Germans) from Eden camp worked at Castle Farm, alongside local employees during the war.

Truly spectacular ruins, the home to two UNESCO world heritage sites. If you like architecture and gardens I would say this is a must. They allow dogs on leads and there are 2 cafes on site.

Food scene
This is our nearest pub, 5 minutes walk away. Good pub grub, decent Yorkshire portions and proper homemade chips. Advisable to book for food and if you have a dog let them know as the bar area is quite small but much cosier than the pool room.

St Helen & the Holy Cross
The church in the village is 12th century (5 mins walk from the accommodation). There is a small tomb here carved with a child's effigy, rumoured to be the resting place of Edward of Middleham, Prince of Wales, Richard the III 's son.
The church is open in the day and free to visit. There are stunning views at the back of the graveyard across the Howardian Hills.

The "castle line" comes all the way from right outside York Station to Sheriff Hutton, they are not that frequent though (last bus from York17:45) so plan your journey.
