June lake drive loop!! June Lake Loop is one of the best locations in the high Sierras, in the fall the scenic drive is amazing with the turning of the season being shown throughout the drive, a great place for photography with the trees turning yellow and orange. This is also a great place to visit in the summer with the warmer weather and June lake has a great beach area on the lake to hang out. The "JUNE LAKE LOOP" is only a 20 min drive. Make sure to stop at the hidden Gull lake. My favorite lake on this loop (and in Mammoth Lakes), is June. Rent a canoe in the summer for an easy paddle with 360 views. Pick up a poke bowl at Ohanas 395 and have a picnic on Gull lake right on the water picnic tables.

You can drive right up to it (4WD recommended), no hike to the springs. You also pass Rock Tub hot spring on the way if you want to try two. BEAUTIFUL view from the springs.

Mammoth Lakes Basin Path. Rent an electric bike in the summer at any of the local shops (or Tamarack lodge which is right on the path). With an electric bike its an easy quick ride to get from town to the path and you can go to all the lakes (Horseshoe, Mamie, George, Twin Lakes, with stops AND time for a picnic) from 9a-1p. Half day bike rental would be fine if renting in town (you would need even less time if renting from Tamrack, but I enjoy the ride the path). You can rent a carrier/bike trailer for little ones.

Sightseeing

Bodie ghost town is a true piece of history in the middle of nowhere. It is the remains of a gold mining community from the late 1800’s. $35M in gold and silver were mined out of this area and approximately 200 buildings remain. Five people live there. It is a 70 minute drive from the village and on a quite bumpy road. Please note - there are two entrances to the ghost town. One is paved and the other is not. It’s $8 per person and well worth the money. Spend the extra $3 and purchase the booklet so you can do a self guided tour. It walks through the most significant buildings and gives history on them. You can’t go inside the buildings but you can peer inside and look through the windows. We really enjoyed this piece of history. Expect to spend two hours here. Some tips - bring snacks and water. It’s warm there and unshaded so bring sunblock as well. Also, there are bathrooms at the entrance which are clean and have a toilet that flushes.
