Food scene

We’ve had many a good meal here. If you like Thai food it is a must. The food is delicious and there is lots of choice! Plus they have great cocktails

They have a wonderful (though not cheap) spa here, as well as a lovely afternoon tea! The views are beyond compare, looking out over Saunton beach and Braunton Burrows

The city of Exeter is great for a number of things, eating out, landmarks (including a cathedral and castle) and SHOPPING!

Beach

The beach itself is 3 miles long, with 3 separate entrances. There’s the slipway which can be reached from the front, where all the shops, cafes and restaurants are. There is the pebble ridge entrance which goes through the golf course but you can still easily get on to the beach over the pebble ridge. In summer, dogs are only allowed to the right of the pebble ridge, or at the Appledore entrance - you can’t take them on from the slipway. Then there’s the Appledore entrance which is traditionally more for walks rather than beach days, due to the currents in the estuary

Sightseeing

Recently used to film Mallory Towers. This historic, beautiful landmark is a favourite spot for photographing nature. Sometimes during the year they also open up the walk down to the beach which is lovely, and not too strenuous

We recently did the dolphin safari and had such a fantastic time! We’re planning to go back next year for the Lundy trip! If you like adventure, and wildlife, you’re sure to love this!

Hockings Ice Cream

Dotted all around North Devon, Hockings is a locally made (Appledore) ice cream, made from clotted cream. Once you’ve had one, I guarantee you will never look at Mr Whippy the same way again 😋. You can buy by the cone and by the tub!

Special Occasions

If you’re celebrating a special occasion when you visit we can highly recommend The Bakeaway (on Facebook and Instagram) - she’s local and makes a fantastic chocolate drip cake with chocolate bars of your choice on top. We’ve ordered 3 from there in the last 2 months 🙂
