Some Key places to see, visit and do in the area - some are beaches, some are National Trust properties and some are just a few of our favourite spots.
Home! - a sprawling village with walks, a great local pub 'The Greyhound Inn' and Hickling Broad where you will find - Norfolk Outdoor Adventures for Paddle boarding instruction and Hire plus Kayak hire. Whispering Reeds boatyard is a convenient spot for day sail or motor boat hire. The Pleasure Boat Inn on the broad is open throughout Summer.

Norfolk Wildlife Trust
Stubb Road
Just to visit, see and enjoy an ice cream by the river. Or if you're feeling more adventurous take the walk around the mere, route is signposted in the Trust's car park by the windmill... For trips of the wildlife sort, take a trip with Ross.. What he doesn't know about broadland wildlife isn't worth knowing https://m.facebook.com/RossWildlifeBoatTrips/ . And if you fancy a bite to eat or a beer in the sun, discover The Horsey Nelson - a wee pub full of character and expansive Marsh views. From here you can also meander to the beach and find seals galore... This beach is particularly cute in winter months when the seals come ashore to pup. We'll worth a trip back to the area.

A stately home of with that 'wow' factor. Home once of Ann Boylen and her family, the house and gardens are a marvel as well as the vast expansive parkland and lake. A lovely place to visit anytime of year. On the edges of Aylsham, a pretty and very typical Norfolk Market town, the area also offers three great pub options for great food and drinks. The Buckinghamshire Arms (just outside Blickling Hall gates itself), The Black Boys in Aylsham Town centre and The Walpole Arms in Itteringham village. (Our Nations first Prime Minister, Robert Walpole had estates in the area too (Mannigton Hall (which is open to the public) and Wolterton Hall)) - with quiet lanes and footpaths, linking all these large Norfolk Estates together it makes for a very peaceful and beautiful days exploring.

Less overtly beautiful than its fellow stately home (Blickling Hall) - the rough and ageing facade of Felbrigg Hall seems almost homely in comparison. This is one of my favourites simply for the grounds and woodlands. As leaves begin to brown and autumn takes hold, the various avenues of trees in the vast woods surrounding the hall, take you to another place! Offering lovely walks all across its parkland its a lovely spot to unwind. They Hall has some beautiful walled gardens too and of course the house is open to the public on set days. Near Cromer, Sheringham Park and on the North Norfolk Coastal route, its a great stop if heading to Holt, Cromer or Sheringham (or further afield).

This is a lovely village on the banks of the river. Here you have a collection of pubs, cafe's + bakeries. Canoe and paddle board hire is available from Coltishall Green from 'The Canoe Man' https://thecanoeman.com/hires - or enjoy sitting at 'The Rising Sun' pub and enjoy a pint or food (both great) and food is served all day. The river here is very pretty and worth a little paddle exploration. Can get busy.. but not mental busy!! Cycle hire is also available in the village here from 'Bure Valley Cycle Hire' https://www.burevalleycyclehire.co.uk/ .

A tiny village with a good pub + if visiting Happisburgh beach it's a good stop off for a post beach pint. Lovely food and good beer garden to boot - 'The Lessingham Star'.

Another tiny village (blink and you'll miss it) but does host an impressive church and a fine dining restaurant for something special - Do try the 'Ingham Swan' for a something decadent.

Long and meandering - The Weavers' Way is 61-mile long distance footpath in Norfolk, England. Much of the Weavers’ Way footpath follows the old track bed of the Aylsham to Great Yarmouth railway line operated by Midland and Great Northern Railway Company. You can join it in Stalham or Hickling itself. Depending on which stretch you wish to explore.

Now whilst Bungay is a pretty little town, we're really putting it on the list due to its gorgeous wild swimming opportunities. Granted, its abit of a hike from Camp but if you're staying with us for a longer break and want to explore further a field and wild swimming is your thing.. Then pop Bungay on the list. For lush River swims head to (locate cunningly on the map, or just ask) Outney Common and better still, if you want to throw a sauna in... Then try and get a slot here.. SECRET SAUNA Www.fresha.com/a/secret-sauna-bungay-the-silo-wainford-road-mowwu7ls You will NOT be disappointed xx

Beaches

My favourite beaches
Great expanisve sands with a little cafe, bar, small amusements and village shop too! It can get quite busy in the summer but is lovely for early mornings + evening visits - we highly recommend walking to the right a little way as soon as you hit the sand - the wander away from the crowds is well worth it!

Another great beach 1 mile further east than Sea Palling and definitely quieter and the one the locals are keenest on! You almost get the sands to yourself here :-) Great for early morning strolls or evening swims and popular with the local seals too!

Another top beach for avoiding the crowds at Sea Palling.. we recommend parking at Cart Gap, then heading left as soon as you hit the sand.. walk quite a while until you reach the end of the sea defence, this brings you to the quiet end of Happisburgh beach and is well worth the saunter in the sand. Make sure the tide is out (or heading out) before trying this... the waves sometimes stop you in your tracks. x

Another beach (we have a lot)! - This is quieter than most (though there is a bit of a jet ski crowd) - we like it for the the walks ... (head up 'Dogget Lane' ) and meander past some cabins of days gone by and ideals of beach of holidays of a bygone era.. the footpath will take you across the cliff tops at Happisburgh and past it's infamous red and white lighthouse. Happisburgh (locally pronounced hayz- buh-ruh) is sadly and rapidly falling into the sea, with no government funding to help protect it either. It's a beautiful village with a rich maritime history, having many a ship fall foul of it's shifting offshore sandbanks. The church and lighthouse make this an iconic spot - and apparently Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle was a bit of a fan of this spot too!

Wild Swimming (rivers)

This is pretty magical. Recently discovered myself - if you're into wild swimming and happy to jump into a river, then this is your local spot. Volunteers have been working tirelessly to bring the life back into this ancient waterway (when Wherry's were the means of transporting goods in this area, before the railways) clearing the weeds and bringing this water back to life. In so doing they have created a great spot for wild swimming. We suggest park up at the lock and either jump in off the jetty and take a dip, or if you feel like enjoying the footpath, then meander off for a walk upstream and dip in and out as you please. It's quite, quite magical.
Ebridge Pond and Trip boat.

Further afield (about an hour from camp) but if you're staying with us for longer then this is a stunning spot for a wild swim. Either walk along 'The Angels Way' and discover this spot or head here just for the water. It's up there as one of my favourite places in Norfolk so worth the visit on a sunny day and if of course, wild swimming is your bag. x
