California-Italian cuisine as only Healdsburg can create. I especially like their menu combinations that feature a pasta and a meat or chicken option. The veal and spaghetti is my favorite.

Just 5 minutes up Irwin Road across from the Cottage, it looks like a cross between a convenience store and maybe a dollar store, but they have some of the best turkey that you can find anywhere. Williams-Sonoma has their smoked turkeys available in their catalog for Thanksgiving. If you're looking to pack a sandwich to take wine tasting, look no further.

"Greasy spoon" and nothing fancy, but just the type of breakfast you'll need for a day of wine tasting. I've enjoyed the huevos rancheros and the short stack of pancakes with the sausage patty many times. Bring an appetite!

Jack London's Home and Ranch is near Glen Ellen in the Valley of the Moon. If you're going to spend some time outside (other than at the Cottage) this is a "must see" home and property. It has picnic areas and miles of hiking trails. Stop in later for a beer or glass of wine at the Jack London Pub in Glen Ellen. It was the setting for the bar in the movie "Bottle Shock.

It was opened in 1823 and was the only mission in Alta California built after Mexico gained independence from Spain. If seeing an iconic California historical site is a part of your travel plans, the mission and the quaint town of Sonoma are worth the drive. I like The Girl and the Fig for lunch. Lots of other restaurants, shops, and winery/tasting rooms - many around the historic town plaza surrounded by buildings dating from the Bear Flag rebellion.
