Tipps für Reisende

Verkehrsmittel

North Georgia has mountain roads.

Most major roads are paved in North Georgia, however, gravel roads are still in use. Be sure to come prepared with a 4-wheel drive vehicle, a truck, an SUV, or at a minimum, a car that is at least 1 ft (30 cm) off the ground and can handle steep roads.
Nicht verpassen

Not all sites are open year-round.

Brasstown Bald and other high altitude sites may be closed for a portion of the year, especially the winter. Please check the operating times of the places you would like to visit and confirm road access to those places.
Bräuche und Kultur

Southern Hospitality.

The culture of North Georgia is mostly consistent with the rest of the United States, however respect and kindness is especially expected here and will likely be greatly appreciated.
So kannst du sparen

Georgia State Parks are free but parking is not.

If you frequent Georgia State Parks, you may want to purchase a ParkPass which will allow you to park for free in state parks, otherwise you will pay 5 dollars per state parking lot you park in. Passes are available at gastateparks.org.
Buche vor der Abreise

Chattahoochee River Excursions & Adventures.

Excursions such as tubing, rafting, or canoeing on the Chattahoochee River should be booked in advance even if your party is small. Keep in mind these excursions are often seasonal.
Was einpacken?

Hotlanta is hot, North Georgia is not.

The cabin is at an elevation of 2,372 ft (723 m) above sea level. There is a likelihood of below freezing temperatures in the months of December, January, February, and March. Please come prepared with the appropriate clothing.
Nützliche Sätze

Southern accents.

Native Georgians will likely speak in a southern accent. Expect to hear y'all instead of you guys, yes'm in place of yes ma'am, and pronouncing Appalachia with a short "a" instead of a long one.
Mit Kindern reisen

Children get lost every year in State & National Parks.

State and National Parks in the United States are a privilege to enjoy, but a responsibility to enjoy safely. Railings, directional markers, and warning signs are often absent from official hiking routes. Please make sure you and your party respect safety guidelines made available through the National Park Service's website, nps.gov, and the Bureau of Land Management's website, blm.gov. State and Federal entities accept little to no liability with regard to missing persons, serious injury, or death on public land.
