This is the closest town to Lakehead and perfect for making stops for groceries before heading up to the house. Redding is also a great place to explore with fun things to do for the whole family.
You could go to sundial bridge for some hikes, hang at the parks, check out local breweries, restaurants and ice cream shops. Make sure to pick up coffee at one of the Dutch Bro's drive throughs.
