City/town information

Jupiter is a town on the southeastern coast of Florida. On a hill overlooking the Loxahatchee River, the red 1860 Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse offers panoramic views. The site also has a preserved pioneer-era homestead and a museum devoted to regional history, housed in a WWII U.S. Navy building. Nearby Jupiter Beach faces the Atlantic Ocean. Running along the beachfront, Carlin Park has playgrounds and tennis courts.

As if eating dinner beneath the full moon and palm fronds with a view of the lighthouse isn't enough the food was sublime. Succulent oysters & fish dip for appetizers, perfectly prepared fish for dinner and key lime pie for dessert are well worth the wait even without the gorgeous surroundings and yummy drinks from the bar.

My favorite places to enjoy nature and relax

On the north end of town near the border with Jupiter, Juno Beach Park is a dog-friendly beach with serene blue waters and a pier that's popular for fishing and watching the sunset; the beach is bordered by Juno Dunes Natural Area, where you can explore loop trails through preserved wetlands and scrub forest.

CLIMB THE JUPITER INLET LIGHTHOUSE The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum is unmissable. After all, there's little as charming as a historic lighthouse perched upon a hill overlooking an azure harbor. Paint it red and surround it by tropical hammock and a massive ancient ficus tree, and you've got a real beauty on your hands. Insider's tip: Grab a map at the entrance to the lighthouse trail and try the History Mystery Scavenger Hunt on the back of the map for added fun.

A protected swimming area is a hot spot for families, offering little ones a safe place to splash about without the worry of giant waves and undertows. More like a lagoon, this pretty spot boasts its own sheltered beach. Its calm, clear water is primed for snorkeling and close to the playground.

Singer Celine Dion and pro golfers Greg Norman and Nick Price have estates on this narrow barrier island, located about 50 miles north of Palm Beach. But most who have homes here made their money the old-fashioned way: They inherited it
