Plan a day trip to Corinna, where you can take a scenic boat ride down the Pieman River. For the more adventurous types, hire kayaks and while paddling through ancient rainforests, and discover the wreckage of SS, Australia’s most inland shipwreck and paddle out to Lover’s Falls, accessible by a secret stairway. West Coast Towns

While you're staying in Zeehan, there's a number of fantastic towns all within driving distance that are well worth a visit.
At first glance, Zeehan can feel a little like a ghost town. It’s heady days of mining are behind it, and in their wake are beautiful grand buildings lining the streets reminding of us a time long past.

Known for its fishing village, Strahan is a pretty waterside town and home to the coffee shack, which, along with great coffee, has a fantastic line up of daily food.

Queenstown, once known for its moonlike landscape - a left over from its mining days, now attracts a strong arts community and is home to the Unconformity, a biennial contemporary arts festival exploring the changing face of Western Tasmanian communities. Photo credit: @westcoasttas

Be careful on the roads

Given that Tasmania is home to so much wildlife, we encourage people to slow down and be extra careful when driving at dusk and dawn. You'll probably notice a lot of wildlife (dead) on the side of the roads in Tasmania, and would hate for you (or them) to be in an accident. The other thing to watch for is "black ice" commonly on the road in winter on the stretch between Zeehan and Tullah.

Be prepared for the rain

Ok, so the west coast is known for it's glorious wilderness and rainforests... it's also known for its rain. We'd hate for the weather to get in the way of your plans, so ensure you pack for wet weather, yes, even in summer. We're talking waterproof shoes and coat, and while an umbrella might be good for the city, you might find it not as practical on the west coast.
