We love Costco! If you head east on the 8, it's worth a stop for their cheap gas. (Another location is off highway 5 north of the house)

Sightseeing

This is one of our favorite beaches - a little bit of a drive but it's tucked away and usually not crowded. It's got a small town feel, nice bathrooms and often parking available in the lot.

This is a beautiful city to walk around (small town beachy feel), especially from Hotel Del Coronado heading south along the beach. See if you can figure out what the dunes spell out! You can also browse the little shops and restaurants along Orange Avenue.

La Jolla has beautiful art galleries and fancy stores that are fun to peruse. The walk along the coastal cliffs starting at Windansea Beach to the La Jolla Tide Pools is delightful. Various little paths lead to small beaches. A short drive away, enjoy La Jolla Shores Beach with lifeguards, a playground, bathrooms, Scripps pier and a beautiful beach. Parking lots can get full in the summer, but free street parking is available for many blocks around.

Balboa Park is home not only to the San Diego Zoo, but also many museums, the Spanish Village Art Center and the Japanese Friendship Garden. The architecture is beautiful with fountains and promenades. It's fun even just to walk around this area.

The waterfront park includes a fun playground cross from the Star of India ship and next to the pink art-deco County Administration building. It's a fun place for kids to play around and is within walking distance to the Harbor (it's 1.0 miles to Sea Port Village).

This is our favorite sushi restaurant! It's tasty and economical. There's often a long line to dine in, so we usually order take out. If you're a flexible eater, order their monthly special to try for different rolls of their choice!
