Food scene

The Cornish food scene is a broadcast of little gems (with a few clusters). Find one that catches your eye.
Charelstown is super close. A foodies Dream just inshore from the freshest sea food farm, famous for beautiful tall ships and its historic china clay port that has been taken up by local entrepreneus to become a smorgasboard of fun for a balmy night.

Local Beaches

So so many beaches - go explore! Here are a few local ones to get you started.
A short car trip round the bay but a must-do for water sport newbies or enthusiasts. The beach itself is sandy and long! There is a good beach cafe and carefree holiday vibe.

From the Coast Path you get dropped right into the pub garden! This pretty shielded bay is ideal for gently mastering paddleboarding or sadcastle building. It also hosts an annual competitive bay swim.

City/town information

The seat of governance and thus Capital of Cornwall (NEVER question it's nationhood to a Cornish citizen) has changed many times over the years. Launceton, Bodmin and now Truro. Other towns grew up around major industries, mining. quarrying, fishing and farming.
With bustling shops and the countries newest gothic catherdral Truro is home to pubs, Skinners Brewery Taphouse and holds pride of place atop a beautiful creek. The place breathes twice a day with the tide so check the times and grab a ferry ride to the coast if the place gets too busy. Lemon Quay and the covered paneer markets are great places to find a little cornish keepsake to take home.

Sightseeing

Standing over the Western Access to St Austell Bay Mevagissey (named for both St Meva and St Issey) is a gem of tight windy byways, cornish charm a unique double bay to protect the still busy fishing vessels from winds snapping from the East

Royalist stronghold of old - Fowey guards the Eastern side of St Austell Bay, steep streets hide unexpected views out to sea and along the green fields and beaches of the Saints Way. Dont be too shocked to see some truly magfnificent ships. Those waters are deeper than they look. Scaling down a little - Fowey is also home to birds, kayaks and the occasional amorous swimming deer.

Julia's Haunts

Not in the Brochures ...but I love them.
Happy bustling dog walker beach where the sand seems to change colour with every tide. Shallow and paddle friendly it changes size too. If you follow the shoreline out too far keep your eyes on the returning water or you might be paddling back! There is a bird lake behind the East side of the Beach. Thank you to Ann Bishop from Friends of Par Beach for the lovely photos.

The Clay District really is the heart and soul of St Austell Bay - only locals seem to know and love the sweeping abandoned open cast clay pits but I kinda wish others would share it too. Unique is an over used term but the Clay Trails really do define 'here'.
