Eating out in Salcombe and Surrounding Areas

Food scene

In Salcombe town about 5/10 min walk downhill there are a number of small restaurants and cafes to choose from, I’d recommend The WardRoom for brunch- the porridge is amazing- yes really!! It’s on Fore Street (the Main Street through town) right next to the White Strand car park (or walk straight through Crew Clothing shop).

The Beach House- this is a lovely rustic restaurant set on the sand dunes overlooking South Milton National Trust beach, the food is amazing and the atmosphere is fun and relaxed, they do get booked up so worth booking in advance if possible. It’s a short 10 minute drive from the house. The beach is also beautiful for a stroll and plenty of rock pools for some crab spotting for the kids.

For the evening the Salcombe Harbour Hotel is lovely, we’ve been there several times and the food is lovely and they are very warm and welcoming- again one to book.

For something a bit more casual the Fortescue Inn is really nice and the pizzas are delicious, there’s also a pool table in there and sometimes live music.

Delicious Fish and Chips sat right by the water- what more could you want! This place is a gem in Salcombe, hidden away down the steep steps just at the bend of the hill near Sailor V Cafe.

Sightseeing

We have young children and they love a trip across the estuary from Salcombe in the ferry and playing on East Portlemouth beach. Just catch the ferry at the bottom of the steps by the Ferry inn. They run very frequently but check the timetable on the noticeboard for exact timings.

Across the estuary, Gara Rock sits imposingly above the esturary. The views from up here are amazing and the hotel serves a delicious brunch if you can get there early enough. Its not an easy walk, so one for those wanting to burn off some extra energy!

A beautiful cove set only 10 mins walk from town (mostly flat too-yippee!). Great for children and grown ups alike. Come to play in the sand or have a go on a paddle board! There's a pay and display car park for those not wanting to walk and the Winking Prawn cafe serving light lunches, coffees and ice creams.
