Istanbul Top 10

From my flat you can reach this Balat in 10 minutes by car. If you don't have a car, it will take 15-20 minutes by bus. If you like to take pictures, the streets of Balat with its colorful buildings and gypsy culture lifestyle will attract your attention. This location is also full of cafes where many famous artists often come to have coffee. Balat first became home to a large Jewish population in the late 15th century, when Sultan Bayezid II offered citizenship to Jewish and Muslim Jews fleeing the Inquisition in Spain and Africa, and the 1492 Alhambra Decree.[3] At its peak, Balat was home to 18 synagogues, though only two are still in use today: Ahrida Synagogue and Yanbol Synagogue. Opened in 1899 and designed by Gabriel Tedeşci, Or-Ahayim Hospital was originally set up to serve Balat's Jewish population, but now serves the general public. Balat was also home to a wide variety of ethnicities, cultures and religions.[5] The famous Bulgarian Iron Church is located in the district, and there was traditionally a sizeable Armenian population too.[6] Its proximity to St. George's Church and the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in neighbouring Fener also meant that there was a large Greek Orthodox (Rûm) population.

If you like walking, you can reach Taksim buses from my flat on foot. Or you can reach it in 2 minutes by cable car. It takes only 15-20 minutes by bus. Taksim Square situated in Beyoğlu in the European part of Istanbul, Turkey, is a major tourist and leisure district famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels. It is considered the heart of modern Istanbul, with the central station of the Istanbul Metro network. Taksim Square is also the location of the Republic Monument which was crafted by Pietro Canonica and inaugurated in 1928.

You can reach this historical cistern, which has been the subject of many movies and books, in 30 minutes by using the Eminönü bus. The cistern was used as a location for the 1963 James Bond film From Russia with Love. In the film, it is referred to as being constructed by the Emperor Constantine. The finale of the 2009 film The International takes place in a fantasy amalgam of the Old City, depicting the Basilica Cistern as lying beneath the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, which, in the film, is directly adjacent to the Suleymaniye Mosque. In the 2011 video game, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, the player controlled character, Ezio Auditore, is given the chance to explore a section of this cistern in a memory sequence entitled The Yerebatan Cistern. The cistern is also featured in Jean-Baptiste Andrea's movie thriller Brotherhood of Tears (2013). In the sequence, the lead character, acting as a transporter (played by Jeremie Renier), delivers a suitcase to a mysterious client. The cistern with its inverted Medusa pillar featured in the 2013 Dan Brown novel Inferno-Tom Hanks (as well as its 2016 movie adaptation).
