Sightseeing

Arrive early and bring comfy shoes! This is a fabulous day out for all ages! The catering is excellent at the zoo but pretty pricey, so a packed lunch will save you a fortune.....although sheltered picnic spaces in the rain get pretty crowded!

This is genuinely one of the most fun race meets in the country because it is in walking (or tipsy stumbling distance) from Chester City centre. The atmosphere is electric. Ladies, save yourself the embarrassment of bare feet on the cobbles and go in comfy flats!

Eastgate street is the main shopping street in Chester and hosts one of our most famous landmarks, the Eastgate clock. It is a good place to start a tour around the Chester walls , or indulge in some shopping

The biggest Roman Amphitheatre outside of Rome and a great place to sit and have your sandwiches whilst on a tour round the walls. Very busy sunbathing spot in the summer months amongst the locals on their lunch break

Just across the River Dee is a gorgeous little village with a thriving cafe and pub culture called Handbridge. Take a walk down the river side or maybe go on the boat tours

This isn't especially unique or exciting in any way..... but a useful place to know about for anything you might need and with free easy parking. There is an Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and ASDA, Macdonalds, KFC, Costa Coffee etc all the usual suspects

I remember this place when it was a horrible run down old cinema....now it is a beautiful arts hub, theatre, cinema and eatery. Well worth catching a show there

Up crumbling steps from the main shopping streets of Eastgate, watergate and Bridge street, exists another level of shops. Mostly housing cafes, jewellers and small independents the "Rows" are quite a unique feature of Chester. Watch your footing and your head in places as these mini shopping galleries were built way before health, safety or ease of access were ever considered. They are a fab way to keep out of the rain though

Adventure

This place used to be a farmers field that teenagers used to go to make rope swings and bridges in the hedgerows.....now it is a full farm themed adventure park. Its a bit expensive for what teeters on the edge of feeling like a death trap....but it is a lot of muddy fun. Wear wellies and clothes you don't like!

Such amazing fun! We've been to one of these water parks on the docks in Liverpool as well, but this was soooooo much more fun as you didn't have to worry about what was in the water!
