Entertainment & Activities

Every day of summer in the old port, there are street performers at the Place Jacques Cartier Square. You’ll find many non-musician performers here, since this is where miscellaneous acts are allowed to perform. All the performers have permits, which aren’t cheap, costing up to 350$. So, the buskers really do mean business and only the top ones choose to set up shop. You’ll get to enjoy watching unique talent, usually including acrobatics and juggling acts, sprinkled in with a little humor. The performers always involve audience members, making it fun for the whole family. Nine times out of ten, people are happy to tip at the end of a good show.

This activity is great for the whole family, assuming that everyone is ages 7 and up. The zipline is located at the Old Port’s clock tower and just-so-happens to the biggest zip in any Canadian city! You’ll be in for a thrill, getting a lovely birds-eye view of city, speeding down a line at 60km/hour. What’s more is that you can ride beside someone else in your family, since there are two lines that run side-by-side. The whole experience, including training, takes about 10-15min however wait-times in the line up can be long on weekends, so it’s better to do this activity on a weeknight. Make sure to plan this activity early enough in the evening to guarantee time for watching the fireworks.

Food Scene

This is the best spot to watch the fireworks! Walk over to the Auberge restaurant on 97 Commune Street, by around 9pm for a nice rooftop tapas sit down experience. You’ll be able to munch, drink, and chat for the hour leading up to the lightshow. Plus, you’ll get a great view of Old Montreal, including all the city lights reflected on the water. Consider making reservations here, up to a week in advance, since it’s a popular spot for catching the fireworks. Also, expect to pay an entry fee of 25$ per person. Even though you won’t find tons of information online about this spot, trust a local – It’s worth every penny.
