"All the benefits of a fine hotel plus the privacy and independence of a house rental. From the linens to the record player, the well stocked kitchen to the deep bathtub, everything about the house is beautifully designed and luxurious" Guest quote
This is a 200-year-old stone and clapboard house, just one mile outside of New Paltz, an historic and vibrant college town, settled beneath the breathtaking Shawangunk Ridge, just 90 minutes from NYC. A world famous climbing area, The Nature Conservancy dubbed the Gunk’s, with their vertical cliffs and cold-running streams, one of earth's "Last Great Places”. Visitors come to New Paltz to soak up the region's rich history, hike, bike, climb, skydive or just relax in one of the many bars and restaurants. The 1807 Stone House was built by our ancestors for tenant farmers and now, after an extensive restoration, provides a very comfortable vacation house full of historic character. The house forms part of a 12-acre property of woods and streams that has been in our family for 10 generations and is also the site of our 1826 Federal style home that is listed on the National Historic Register. The Stone House is very peaceful and private - see the guest reviews for endorsement! A woodland path provides direct access from the property to a 23-mile rail trail, which is an easy hike or bike into town. We have a selection of bikes that you are welcome to borrow. In the late 19th century, the Wallkill Valley Railroad ferried fresh produce and vegetables from the farmlands of Ulster County to the streets of New York City. The railroad may have gone, but the area is still abundant with apple orchards, small independent farms and wineries. There is an organic farm just a 3-minute walk from the property where one can buy fresh vegetables, artisan breads and local cheese. Accommodation is on three levels. At the top are 2 bedrooms, one with a Queen bed and the other with 2 twin beds. The emphasis is on comfort, with ironed linens and plenty of pillows and throws. There is one full bathroom with claw foot tub and rain shower and limitless hot water. There are two living rooms on the second floor; one has white washed stonewalls, with a large gas fired stove set in the original open fireplace. There is a large sofa and armchair, TV for Netflix and DVD with movie selection Please note that there is NO cable TV, but there is fast Wi-Fi connection throughout the house. The other room is full of light and looks out over shrubs, trees and a stream. Stairs lead down to a full kitchen, with wide board maple floor and large open fireplace with propane stove. The kitchen is outfitted with stone countertops, European eye level oven and the basic necessities including a variety of quality cookware, coffee maker and blender. A range of spices, olive oil, coffee and selected teas are provided. The table can seat six and there is also an armchair and window seat. We provide complimentary breakfast items for your first morning, including OJ and muffins. A Dutch door leads out on to a private terrace with picnic table and propane grill. This is a wonderful place to watch the abundant bird life. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer. The house has a modern zoned heating system that makes for cozy winter visits. In the summer there are AC units in the kitchen, living room and both bedrooms. The house is foam insulated. The house sleeps 4. Please discuss with us first if you plan to be more than 4. Although we have a 2 x night minimum stay, we will happily consider a last minute booking for a one night stay on a week day. *Please note that on holiday weekends there is a 3 x night minimum stay We have a strict No smoking and No Pets policy. **We will always try to be flexible on our check in and check out times if we can, so please ask! **Minimum 3 x night stay on holiday weekends** Guests have sole use of the house and access to all the outside areas. In addition, there are bikes available for use on the rail trail. We welcome guests in person when they arrive, point out the essentials of the house and then stay away unless called for!
Friendly college town with many small independent stores, wide choice of bars and restaurants and surrounded by many varied amazing hiking trails. Its the perfect weekend destination for anyone wanting to chill out and enjoy the outdoors. 20 min walk into New Paltz from the house, or 10 mins by bike. We supply the bikes. We will always try and accommodate an early check in or late check out if we are able to, but sometimes it just is not possible. If we can, we will.
  • We had an amazing time at the Stone House. Kate and Mark were perfect hosts and everything about the house exceeded expectations. The kitchen was fully stocked, including some welcoming extras like milk and OJ. The turntable and record collection (a tasteful range from Fleetwood to Boulez) was an unexpected treat. Mark was very easy to communicate with and accommodating when we made a last-minute request to add a few more days to the reservation. If you're visiting the New Paltz area, this is where you should stay.

  • The 1807 Stone House is a beautiful place to visit, like going back in time. Set in the lush, pastoral Hudson Valley countryside, it is 5 minutes away from the charming and historic town of New Paltz. Kate and Mark have taken care of every detail with care and professionalism. You can be confident in deciding on this property. Thanks to Kate and Mark for the thoughtful touches such as brownies, cinnamon brioche, and juice.

  • We had a week at the Stone House and have already booked another--the other reviews and the description of the house are accurate; this is a no-risk, all-reward AirBnB adventure!

  • We had another fantastic weekend at the Stone House. Mark and Kate are so incredibly thoughtful- leaving us a bottle of wine, cinnamon toast and brownies-not to mention access to a bunch of kid's driving toys and books. Our son spent the weekend skipping stones in the creek while we watched local birds, chipmunks and bunny rabbits. We love it here-and love the easy access to town and farms and trails.

  • We had such a great stay and looking forward to coming back again! Thanks Kate and Mark for making our stay so enjoyable with all the comforts of home:))

  • Wonderful weekend at the stone house. Perfect for a family of four. Lots a great nature to explore nearby. It was nice to meet Mark, they left breakfast goodies and brownies for us. Wonderful restoration of an historical home. Looking forward to returning to explore BV the other seasons New Paltz has to offer. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

  • Kate & Mark made us feel very right at home in their beautiful stone cottage immediately upon arrival. Mark was there to greet us and gave a mini tour of the space, before sharing a few suggestions on dinner and breakfast the next morning! This place has been restored with such loving detail, and every piece of furniture and decor adds to its rustic charm. We couldn't have asked for a more lovely place to spend our mini-moon weekend!

    Andrew March 2016
  • One of my best airbnb experiences ever! I was very impressed by all the renovation works done, and can't agree more with other reviews that this is a great place for a family vacation. Highly recommended, and I'd definitely come back to the stone house.

For rock climbers, ‘The Gunks’ are the single busiest climbing destination in North America, with some 50,000 technical climbers visiting the area each year to scale roughly 1200 documented climbing routes. The less adventurous can see the climbers in action from the Mohonk Preserve’s Undercliff/Overcliff trail. Adventurers can also access miles of rail trail. Adirondack Trailways offers bus service throughout New York State, including daily departures from NYC Port Authority to New Paltz, Kingston, Rosendale, Saugerties, Woodstock and Phoenicia. • My husband and I had the most wonderful stay at Susan's lovely home. From the moment we walked in, we were in love with the home and Susan could not have been more welcoming - including leaving us local organic eggs, etc. for breakfast. With her permission, we brought our dog and there was a separate fenced-in area for his use. The pool and yard is incredible, there are bird feeders everywhere so lots colorful birds and cute squirrels, as well as an adorable barn cat! Every detail was thought of and everything you could possible need for a wonderful stay. Our only regret is that were not able to book another week immediately, but will definitely be looking forward to our next stay.

  • The house truly gives off a sense of peace and relaxation. The outdoor space, with the garden and the pool is all you need to unwind. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking supplies and Susan even left us some breakfast items in the fridge! In addition, the trail behind the house was a bonus for us, for running and walking to town. We highly recommend checking it out. Our dog Lola also had a great time. She attentively watched the birds, squirrels and the cat every day. Thanks Susan for always being so attentive and for sharing your beautiful home!

  • Lovely, peaceful place convenient to downtown New Paltz. Everything we could possibly need for our comfort was provided. You could spend a delightful day just watching the many backyard birds swooping in and out of the trees. Susan was perfectly attentive and responsive to any request within minutes. An ideal getaway!

  • The house was gorgeous, and Susan was a fabulous host. More than we could have hoped for. Her home has such a lovely feeling, and is very comfortable and well equipped. We were there to celebrate our daughter's 10th birthday and when we arrived Susan had birthday balloons as a surprise for her. This sort of personal and thoughtful effort was evident in many ways, from farm fresh eggs in the fridge to inviting us to pick beans from the organic vegetable garden. The house has great fresh flow, lovely decor and the kitchen has everything you need, plus more. Recently renovated, the house is clean, tidy and in good condition. The children swam all weekend, with pool floats provided. The seamless indoor, outdoor lifestyle made it a weekend to remember. We loved the wildlife around the house too, it entertained us immensely. Strolling the rail trail to town and back was perfect outing each day. I highly recommend this home for all of those wanting a relaxing fun getaway. It was peaceful and inspiring all at once. Thank you Susan, for sharing your gorgeous space!

  • We had a wonderful time at Susan's house in New Paltz over Labor Day Weekend. The house was the perfect distance from the town and walkable on the rail trail behind the house (also great for a hike or bike ride!). It was just my husband, myself and our dog but the house could easily accommodate more people and we hope to return another time with friends or family! This home definitely had a peaceful spirituality to it which really enhanced our little vacation. It was perfect for our 'fur-baby' with fenced in yards and even dog treats and balls. Susan left us some goodies and a bottle of wine upon our arrival which was another lovely touch. The photos and description are perfect and we would highly recommend this home! Thank you Susan! Only about a 90 minute ride up from NYC...we will definitely book again.

    Anna September 2016
  • We loved this house and felt right at home once we arrived. Susan made us feel very welcome with some wine and breakfast goodies for the next morning. The pool was perfect for a hot summer weekend and the location was great - very quiet but also close to town. We would definitely stay here again.

    Stephanie July 2016
  • We were looking for a tranquil place to get away from it all for a few days mid summer, with trees, a pool, great chef's kitchen as we live to cook and a clean modern design in peaceful country setting. This beautiful home had it all and more! Our stay was perfect in every way. From the moment we requested to book, Susan the owner, was gracious, warm and helpful. She was kind to provide recommendations for the area like restaurants, things to see and do and answered our questions about what we may need to bring. The mid century modern style home is relaxing and set in a magical garden oasis with wonderful birds, squirrels, chipmunks and an adorable barn cat who make waking up into really special mornings. Serenity, peace, calm is what you feel upon entering this home. A quick walk on wooded trail to town or to a terrific organic farm market make for fun days. Most days we spent lounging at the gorgeous pool. Susan was a fantastic host - with much appreciated flowers, coffee, breakfast supplies and bottle of wine to welcome us. Not to mention we took her up on a private chef dinner in evening - this was an absolute highlight and evening to remember. She is a masterful chef and prepared for us one of the best meals ever with local ingredients. It was a pleasure to experience this special home and we're so thankful to Susan for sharing it with us. We look forward to returning one day!

    David July 2016
  • Susan makes you feel very welcome with lovely flowers placed throughout the house and some other very thoughtful provisions ( I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise!). For our visit it was very hot out, and she had opened all of the screened windows and turned on the fans and even without air conditioning on a super-hot day it felt cool. The location cannot be beat - the walk into town along the rail trail is pretty and quick and yet house feels like it's secluded in the woods. The gardens are beautiful and peaceful and all of the windows give you a great views of birds and flowers. And there is a pool and hammocks; the list goes on...! You do not need to leave - it's a true sanctuary. Susan is a great, friendly host who checks in often and makes sure you have what you need. She even gave us tips on what to pick from the garden and where to go for fresh flowers. We loved it and are already planning on going back!

New Paltz

This recently renovated guest apartment is attached to our classic 1960s home and furnished in a midcentury style. We are five minutes drive from charming downtown New Paltz and walking distance to beautiful apple orchards and a horse farm.
Our guest apartment is cute, clean and cosy. The kitchen should have everything you'll need to make yourself meals and the bedroom is super relaxing. We really welcome families and can provide a packnplay travel crib and an inflatable kids mattress, plus toys if needed. Children are also encouraged to play in the yard, with swings, jungle gym, and all manner of trikes and bikes. Small dogs are allowed as long as you keep the space clean. If your pet is friendly they can roam in our big fenced-in backyard. We have a geriatric toy poodle called Stud and an inquisitive cat named Sylvia. You may see them around. You have a separate entrance to the apartment that's ground level with good accessibility (not sure if it's wheelchair friendly - we can figure that out.) You'll have your own key and come and go as you please. We live in the attached house so are available any time if you have questions. This is a family home and while we'll do our utmost to be considerate of noise levels, you may hear us moving around or playing in the yard : ) Otherwise you have complete privacy and we will probably only pass each other in the driveway.
New Paltz is amazing. A hippy-dippy college town with deep history and a strong sense of local community. The mountains are breathtakingly beautiful and there are endless things to do in every season: leafpeeping, apple picking, farms, hiking, cylcling, walking the rail trail, rock climbing, antiquing, spas, bars and swimming holes. We are on a quiet residential street a 5 minute drive to town. Car is best. Plenty of parking space here.
  • Anna & Erica were very welcoming. The neighborhood is quiet and a short driving distance to Main Street with cute shops and eateries. They accommodated my dog and I with my last minute reservation request, which we really appreciated. We were able to go on hikes nearby at the lovely Mohonk Preserve, and do the the Walk on the Hudson; even Robibero Winery allows you to bring your 4-legged friend too, so it was a nice dog-friendly trip.

    Emily June 2016
  • Anna and Erica were charming hosts, and the apartment was exactly as described. The neighborhood is quiet, the property relaxing. I would absolutely stay again.

    Rachel June 2016
  • This was my first time using air b&b and I was a bit skeptical but Anna was very accommodating to our late check in and the place was spotless.

    Sandra June 2016
  • Anna made me and my wife feel welcomed. The description of the property was as expected. Peaceful neighborhood. People around the area were friendly. My inner-Bronx would've liked an extra lock on the door and thicker curtains, but we obviously didn't have any hiccups or issues of safety while we were there. Beautiful home. Beautiful family.

    Lamar July 2016
  • Excellent stop on our trip north! Very welcoming and clean. Huge back yard with tons of toys for our toddler and lots of room for our dog to play. Anna even left out snacks and toys in the apartment for our son. Thanks for the comfortable stay!

    Laura June 2016
  • We loved staying at Anna's! Her listing was even more charming in person - pretty street, great design, clean, and just what we expected / needed for our trip. In addition, Anna and her wife were accommodating and communicative - such a friendly couple who welcomed us to their home. Would definitely recommend this listing if you're looking for a place to stay in the Hudson Valley!

    Amy July 2016
  • Anna and Erica are the perfect hosts. Their place is clean, comfortable, and located near everything New Paltz has to offer. It was such a nice respite to come back to after time at work, with a comfy couch to lounge on and a soft bed to sleep in.

    Dese'Rae July 2016
  • The apartment was even nicer than portrayed in the photos. Is is spacious, spotlessly clean and the decor is simple and uncluttered yet also stylish and very comfortable. Our hosts were both responsive and unobtrusive. This was a great rural getaway after a hectic few days in Manhattan. If we are ever in the area, we would definitely stay here again.

Cute, Mid Century Apartment
Come stay at our extended stay room! This room is up steep stairs on a separate wing of the house, (more private) please only book if you are okay with going up and down stairs to use rest room and access house
The Tweefontein Farmhouse was built in the late 1700's as a dairy farm and was later used to house aqueduct workers. In the 1980's the property was acquired by Ann Salomon who transformed the property into an herb farm and gave it the name Tweefontein, named for the two springs on the property. Now the farm is cooperatively run by a group of seven who are passionate about continuing what Ann started and working in harmony with Mother Earth. Guests can explore the property, meditate in the meditation room, or get their hands dirty in the gardens! We're always open to sharing homesteading skills we have acquired. On a typical day we're weeding, planting, brewing tea, composting, making home cooked meals and beautifying the land. There are also several artists in the house so you might hear our musical gifts or see an artist in action and we hope the creative energy we generate inspires you too! At any point in the day there will always be a cooperative member if you need anything, whether it be something to make your stay more comfortable or directions into town!
Private Street off of Route 299. No houses visible. Nature abounds! Our property is sandwiched between the Mohonk preserve and the Minnewaska State Park. We are just three miles from downtown New Paltz where you can find access to the historic Rail Trail as well as some amazing restaurants and shopping. An ideal spot with some of the best hiking and climbing in the country! Trailways Buses run frequently every day between NYC's Port Authority and downtown New Paltz. Transportation between the farm and downtown New Paltz can be arranged with cooperative members -- we'll be happy to give you a lift whenever one of us is available! This is an old farm house -- amenities are not all modern. We do not have TV or cable, but we like it that way. The bathrooms are just the essentials! If you stay here be prepared to unplug from the distractions! We also have two amazingly friendly and wonderful golden retrievers who live here, as well as a few cats. So we hope that you enjoy animals as much as we do!
  • We had a great time! Everyone was very welcoming and relaxed. It was great to share food but also have the space to cook or own meals. Perfect location for hiking and climbing. We will definitely be visiting again later this year! Thank you!

    Lindsay May 2016
  • The communication has been excellent until we got to the place. Then, we've been warmly welcomed into the very beautiful farm, which has a lot of cachet. We loved our stay and would love to stay again!

    Isabelle January 2016
  • The welcome from the hosts and the energy of the house was better than I could have imagined. I wish I could have stayed and spent more time at the house, on the property, and with the hosts. I'd definitely recommend this charm to anyone spending time in the area.

    Megan April 2016
  • I had a wonderful experience at the farm! I wanted a get away from the city and didn't have a car but it was no problem! A taxi from the bus station is very easy, and Christopher was nice enough to drop me off on my way back. Everyone I met, guests and hosts, we're fantastic and welcoming. I was even invited to an impromptu communal (delicious!) dinner immediately upon my arrival. The generosity I experienced was really unparalleled. The farm and grounds itself were perfect and I especially loved the crystal shop. I can't wait for a return visit in the fall!

    Kelly August 2016
  • Better than on the photos. Very welcoming community of farmers. Helpful local tips. Delicious teas. Beautiful area. Charming, stylish, spotless. Unique!

Enjoy a private room with a full-sized futon in our spacious home. Located outside of the Village of New Paltz, this is an affordable way to stay in the New Paltz area! The house is on 16 private and wooded acres that includes a creek and a pond. We are located 15 minutes outside of the Village of New Paltz, 15 minutes from Kingston and Highland.
A spacious, sun-lit private bedroom with a futon on 16 acres of wooded land. An affordable way to stay in the New Paltz area! The room is private and has a full-sized, comfortable futon. You'll have access to most of the home: the living room, the kitchen, the den, and the sunroom. You can peruse our bookshelf (but please return books to where you found them), relax in the yard, work/read/eat at our large dining table, or explore the property behind the house! We are former NYC'ers who have escaped the city life for something a little more quiet and rural. We ourselves are fairly new to the area but are happy to help where we can! Interaction can be as extensive or minimal as you would like. You are always welcome to share in a glass of wine or coffee and to play with the animals.
Get the best of both worlds by being on the edge of town! We are tucked away in a more rural and quiet area but a 15 minute car ride away is the Village of New Paltz. In New Paltz you can enjoy the many great restaurants, search for old records and CDs, grab a cup of coffee, shop, or get a massage. Or, stay home all day and enjoy the quiet of nature right in the backyard. Other nearby attractions we love are the Walkway Over The Hudson, the Catskill Animal Sanctuary, various great hikes like the Black Creek Preserve (a personal favorite), Twin Star Orchards, and the Rail Trail. **Please note that our house is neither in the Village of New Paltz nor is it walking distance from the village. You will need a car to get around (or use taxi service). We've had a few guests misunderstand where we are located. We personally love our location because of its proximity to the hub of New Paltz while being able to get away to a more quiet and pastoral setting, but if you are hoping to stay in town and travel by foot, this may not be your best option.** New Paltz is right off of I-87. It's best to get here by car but there are also buses that run from NYC to New Paltz. You can also take the train to Poughkeepsie and grab a taxi from the train station. There are local taxis in New Paltz that you can call for ahead of time. Biking is also another great way to get around (but it is significant ride with some hills to get into town). If you bring your bike you can store it in our shed. There are two cats, a kitten, and a friendly dog. Please note that we have two other rooms that are listed on Airbnb; there is a possibility that you will be sharing the common spaces with other guests.
  • Angelica's place was so beautiful. Super spacious with a huge living room, sun room, study room with a library, a gigantic deck in the backyard, and a 16 acre private backyard. She was so nice and accommodating to anything that we needed. She has 4 adorable pets, 2 cats, 1 kitten and a dog. Definitely a pet friendly home! I would definitely recommend a stay here :)

Inquire about renting the third floor loft/bedroom space for $100 nightly during some of the times marked "unavailable". We do have a pet rabbit but she is pretty self contained. Please let us know if you have allergies and we will arrange to have her kept at a friend's house. We also have a small flock of chickens in the backyard. They are usually in their coop during rentals and will proved fresh eggs for guests.
  • We loved our stay. The house is extremely beautiful and comfortable, perfect for our whole family. We enjoyed relaxing in the huge backyard, eating the fresh eggs provided by the chickens, and looking at all the beautiful flowers in the garden. My son loved having Willow the rabbit around. Mark and his family made us feel totally welcome, and patiently answered all our many questions. He also gave us a longer check out time, which gave us a extra time on our last day. A perfect experience in every way. We would definitely love to come back again.

  • Debbie, Mark and their two children were excellent hosts. We had a lot of fun and we felt very comfortable! The house is very nicely furnished and decorated. They have prepared a place to sleep for us at the upper floor, we were very satisfied. The house has only one bathroom and this bathroom is the connecting room to the upper floor. If you like to choose this accommodation you should know this. For us, it was absolutely no problem. New Paltz is a very nice town in a beautiful setting. Unfortunately we could only stay one night, so we could not explore everything. We would love to come back!

  • Pros: The house is a cute restoration within easy walking distance of downtown New Paltz restaurants--excellent location. Mark & Debbie have done a good job updating the place, with a modern and beautiful kitchen and an excellent family/play room for young kids (the yard is great, too). Mark is a very accommodating and communicative host. Cons: There is only one bathroom, and it's on the second floor. The converted attic space is an awesome room, but do note that you can only get there through the bathroom (they do say this in their description). This was not a problem for my small family staying there, but had we rented it with another family (as was the original plan), it could have been awkward. Overall: We'd definitely stay here again.

  • Thank you Mark for an amazing stay at your home. We rented the full house and were so pleased with the entire experience. The house is beautiful, updated and relaxing, and only minutes to town, with all of its amazing restaurants, bakeries, shops and nightlife. Mark was the best host and his communication was spot on. He provided us with info about events around town, the best places to visit and everything we needed to know about the house. Plus, he was extremely flexible/understanding with our check-out time. We also loved the wireless/bluetooth sound system! We would definitely stay here again.

  • Mark was a very accommodating host and provided lots of information about the house and the surrounding area. The house itself is fun, nicely decorated and filled with interesting books and personal objects, and within walking distance of plenty of little stores and cafes. Parking was easy, both on the property and on the residential street. The one real drawback to the space is that there is only one bathroom, and the big and sunny loft area is inaccessible when the bathroom is in use. However, this house nicely suited the needs of myself and my group while in town for a wedding. We especially loved cuddling Willow the rabbit! I'd love to return to New Paltz again over the summer, and would consider staying here again. Thanks for an easy and positive experience!
