We have the best of both worlds, stunning countryside & easy access to local amenities. We’re on Domen Fawr which is over 1653ft high. At the top you can see Pen y Fan & central Brecons. Heads of the Valley is nearby & provides great access across South Wales. Cardiff is an hour away by train. We are a quiet retreat, ideal for walkers, young families or couples wanting a relaxing, peaceful break. Pets are welcome but there are additional charges. Please ask us in advance as we have our own dogs.

Single storey cottage in Wales

Overlooking the beautiful South Wales mountains. you can be as active or chilled as you like. You can stroll along the canal bank, catch a train from Risca train station which is 4minutes walk away (270yds) to Cardiff to an event (30 minutes by train). You can cycle or walk in the Cwmcarn Forest Drive 5 miles away or the Syrhowy Valley trail enjoyable for all levels of fitness and ability. You can relax and enjoy the lovely cottage in the light, comfortable indoor space or the pretty garden.

Cwmwbwb Lodge

Cwmwbwb Lodge is a 300 year old stone cottage and former hunting lodge of the Marquis of Bute! Fully renovated for your comfort, the lodge nestles on the side of Caerphilly Mountain - with views across the mountain and local golf course. You're just a two minute drive from Caerphilly town and train station with all the amenities you need including shops, bars and restaurants. And while you'll love this peaceful spot - you're less than a 20 min train ride away from the Welsh capital, Cardiff.

The Retreat Cottage

This cottage is set next to our house, with its own driveway, which parks 2/3 cars. The garden is semi enclosed, which is great for dogs, with a stream running through it.. There is a patio area with furniture for outside dining and a bbq. The nearest pub, The Maenllwyd Inn, is approx. 15 min walk via the road or a little longer through the woods. There is also a driveway leading into a wood which is perfect for strolls over to the nearby Draethen and Ruperra Castle and the beautiful views.

The Milking Parlour @ Berthlwyd

The beautifully restored Milking Parlour suits families, city sightseers and activity adventurers. Set in a rural spot, but close to the A470 and Quakers Yard Train Station, on the South Wales Metro. Halfway between Cardiff City Centre and Pen y Fan, we are ideally suited for a weekend in the bright lights of Cardiff, or the stunning dark skies of the Beacons. Locally we are within walking distance to several cosy pubs that serve food, a convenience store and the Taff Trail Cycle Path.

NOTE: The flat is above a retail shop, but is on the 1st floor and has a private rear entrance/patio and lovely views from the lounge/kitchen. (Access is up flight of stairs)
