The Back Forty Solar Cottage

Fernances Creek Farm is one hour north of Sydney in the picturesque Wollombi Valley. Ten minutes from Laguna with the Watagan Mountains and Yengo National Park on our doorstep. The Hunter Valley vineyards start here, with Broke & Pokolbin vineyards 45 minutes away. We are a Haflinger Horse stud on 210 acres, with show jumping and eventing facilities. Great for couples and families, the Back Forty Solar Cottage is a fully featured off grid solar home with all of the comforts and space to relax.

Tranquil self-contained garden suite

The garden studio is at the ground level of the house, it's surrounded by mature trees and lush plants. Located a few minutes walk to a public wharf with ferries to Woy Woy, local cafe and general store; a few minutes drive to the beautiful Bouddi coastal walk, restaurants and shops. You will enjoy your private space with a separate entrance. Friendly chickens and cat might pay you a visit. Feel free to play the piano or borrow our bikes during your stay. Wake up to nature, valley views, and a backdrop of natural bushland. Adults only retreat, reconnect and relax in this new, stylish intimate getaway for two. Hollybrook, a historic dairy farm, is an easy 2 hr drive from Sydney, and 1 hour from Newcastle. Cabin 1 is perfect for those with limited mobility. Close to major wedding venues: Redleaf, Woodhouse and Stonehurst, wineries and everything Hunter & local. Please note: We do not cater for children under 12, nor pets, at this time.

Murray cottage

Murray is a two-bedroom cottage with two queen beds. It has beautiful views of neighbouring vineyards, and is quiet and peaceful. For weekend bookings, a minimum of two guests is required. The cottage is five minutes drive from Hunter Valley galleries and major wineries and restaurants, and less than two hours from Sydney. The cottage is kept meticulously clean by our long-term housekeeper, who uses alcohol-based cleaning agents. Generous, reduced rates are available for week-long stays.
