Everything Else

A hill that's only 3 miles away walking It's high enough to be interesting, and to see a long way if it's clear weather...... but it's not a huge mountain and there's a path all the way to the top.

The nearest (small) town, 6 miles away. One shop, one pub, carved 'Pictish' stones. No petrol. No wi-fi(go to Huntly for internet) Search the internet for the official Rhynie village website.

This forest surrounds the treehouse. Plenty of roads for cycling, very little traffic, just a few timber trucks per day. Cross-country-skiing is unpredictable, sometimes great snow, sometimes slush.

Sightseeing

An interesting working-museum, built about 1784. Scarves, blankets etc for sale, and you can usually see the machinery working.

A hill about 4 miles west of here. It's a bit higher and rougher and more remote than the Tap o'Noth. Great view on a nice day. Interestingly bleak eroded-peat landscape.

The tour is interesting: you see all the stages of making the whisky, plus a short (5 minutes?) film about the history. A whisky shop. Tour costs £10, includes generous samples of whisky.

Doesn't do tours, but it has a slightly-odd garden with conifer bushes clipped into topiary models of whisky-making equipment like stills, condensers, barrels etc.

Drinks & Nightlife

A pub with a huge selection of whiskies.... it is isolated, not in a town, so sometimes it is crowded if a bus-tour has arrived.. 10 minutes later you might be the only customer, sitting at the fire.

Food Scene

Noah's Ark Bistro Dufftown. Fabulous. You have to walk edge-on (slight exaggeration) through all the candles and bright-coloured clutter. Food, too. Open only when they are in the mood.

Arts & Culture

There are 4 stones in the town of Rhynie, with ancient carvings on them. Possibly 1,500 years old (?) Nobody really knows what they mean, there's an animal with a head like a greyhound and wee flippers like a seal. Also circles and lines etc
