Balmoral Beach has postcard-perfect views out through Sydney’s Heads—the entrance to the harbour. The water here is warm, there are no waves to speak of, and there’s an enclosure to protect swimmers—it’s fantastic. The Balmoral Baths ocean pool, at the southern end of the sand, has a walkway around the perimeter so you can jump into the water with ease. Go early in the day, go at high tide, and avoid busy Sundays. That will guarantee you space in the baths to float in peace and gaze at the sky and people strolling along the walkway. When you spot a free table on the patio at The Boathouse, jump out of the water and grab it—it’s a great spot for a coffee.

A piece of paradise that is very popular with families. This long stretch of beach is not just extremely child-friendly, it also offers great views and plenty of things to explore, for example there’s an adventurous footbridge that crosses over to a small island with great views of the harbour. So many great options for food or coffee right on the water. You can also rent small boats, kayaks, SUP etc.

Enjoy some calamari and chips at bottom of the harbour fish and chip shop. Also a good spot to pat other people's puppies on the promenade
