UNESCO Heritage site. Surrounded by olive groves and woodland. The fourteen chapels are joined by a path which leads up to a sanctuary of 1532 placed on the summit. Easily reachable from the flat with 30 minutes hiking.

Th Sacro Monte di Ossuccio is a Unesco Heritage, a beautiful pleasant walk, with beautiful lake views consisting of 14 chapels, containing tableaux of the life of Jesus. At the back of the Sanctuary is a trattoria with excellent home cooking. It's not too long a climb but steep. The views alone are worth the climb.

The Sacro Monte di Ossuccio (literally "Sacred Mount of Ossuccio") is one of the nine sacri monti in the Italian regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, in northern Italy, which were inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 2003. The devotional complex is located on a prealpine crag some 200 metres above the western shore Lake Como, facing Isola Comacina and some 25 km from the city of Como. Surrounded by olive groves and woodland, it is quite isolated from other buildings. The fourteen chapels, constructed between 1635 and 1710 in the typical Baroque style reflecting the Counter Reformation ethos of the sacri monti movement, are joined by a path which leads up to a pre-existing sanctuary of 1532 placed on the summit and dedicated to La Beata Vergine del Soccorso.

Questo complesso si situa sulla riva occidentale del lago di Como, a 25 km dalla città omonima, nel territorio comunale di Ossuccio. Giace su un dirupo a 419 metri sul livello del mare, di fronte all'isola Comacina. È completamente isolato da ogni altra costruzione, circondato da campi, da piantagioni di ulivi e da boschi. Immagine del Santuario che compare negli affreschi della XIV cappella Fin dalla romanità è attestato questo luogo come centro cultuale dedicato a Cerere che attirava grande afflusso di popolo soprattutto alle idi di settembre, come riportato da Plinio il Giovane, console nell'anno 100 d. C. e amico dell'imperatore Traiano che sul Lario possedeva due ville. Recenti scavi sotto il santuario hanno evidenziato tracce di impianto polivolumetrico tipico dei santuari pagani romani[1]. Le quattordici cappelle, tutte costruite tra il 1635 e il 1710, a pianta centrale, sono in stile barocco impreziosite da 230 statue in stucco e terracotta, a grandezza naturale, realizzate da diversi artisti: Agostino Silva, Carlo Gaffuri e Innocenzo Torriani. I costumi delle statue riproducono fedelmente l'abbigliamento signorile e popolare degli abitanti della zona in quel tempo. Le cappelle rappresentano i Misteri del Rosario e conducono al santuario che rappresenta la quindicesima tappa ed è dedicato all'Assunzione della Madre di Dio.
