臨済宗建仁寺派の大本山。栄西禅師が建立した京都最初の禅寺。 国宝の「風神雷神図」の他、多数の文化財を豊富に伝える。法堂天井には畳108枚分の大双龍図も圧巻。 白砂を敷きつめた枯山水庭園も有名である。
